Working as the guitarist/singer/songwriter in a power pop trio, a sideman to other artists and an audio engineer throughout the last decade, Bret Hartley cut his teeth under the radar in Atlanta, Georgia clubs and recording studios. With that extensive experience, he became one of the Atlanta music communitys best kept secrets.
Born in Texas, raised on the Mississippi River in Illinois, Hartley moved to Atlanta and began working with local blues and rock artists, as well as many Decatur, Georgia singer/songwriters. Billy Pilgrim [Honest Harry Records], Alice Peacock [Aware/Columbia], Jennifer Nettles and Telegram have all used Hartleys blues-y, atmospheric guitar style. Sugarland [Mercury Nashville] initially enlisted Hartley for his guitar abilities, but also got his songwriting and production skills. He co-wrote with them the country hits "Baby Girl" (No. 2 on Billboard), "Down In Mississippi" (No. 17 on Billboard) off the triple platinum album "Twice The Speed Of Life" [Mercury Records/Universal] and several other songs. After completing recent album projects for John Austin [Paste Music], Clay Cook, Heidi Hensley, Scott Little, Brian Wiltsey and others; Hartley decided to step out on his own and produce his first solo record: "Sideman Blues". "I've always wanted to do an instrumental album, but never had the time or resources" says Hartley. "The sounds have been in my head for along time, it was time to get them out. I was finally able to pull together the songs and the talent for the record. It turned out great and I'm very proud of it!" As for the future he simply replies: "I'm looking forward to what comes next in my career, meeting new artists and making new music." Check out his clients in the "heros" section to see what he's been up to recenty!
