Bio
Brett Nelson’s debut full-length release Buffalo Jump Art & Crafts reflects his prairie roots, but is most definitely at home on the road and in the cities and towns he passes through. Harmonicas, spacey electric guitars and keys, dobro guitar, expressionistic drumming, field recordings, and one After the Gold Rush guitar solo all help tell the story. Like the three EPs released before it (Now available through independent label Fan Club Music Club), home-recording was the Way. It’s a sparse, honest portrayal of a baker’s dozen folk-roots and blues-inspired tunes by a youngster from a small town with a guitar and some stories to tell. And not to mention a bit of rock n roll, now and then. .... Live shows are a connection to place, to the spirit of that place. Brett’s concerts, consisting of original and covered material, are always adapted to the energy that’s going on in a place, but inevitably hold a strand of his own sound. Brett has performed in coffeehouses and at house concerts, in pubs and at folk festivals, in new age garb shops and at bull sales, on the streets, in packed theatres, in empty stairwells, at sushi breakfasts, in front of films, on the backporch, under the apple tree... .... In 2009, he adopted the stage name Ah Sage to explore more experimental avenues in recorded music and continue honing his songwriting craft. He has been creating and touring since then with an ever-revolving cast in an always evolving magical mystery of a tour. .. -

Sounds Like
This is to ears what a burning cabin is to a lumberjack's nose. The smells of all that has somehow seeped into the woodwork and all he has built released back into the air. Full of memories and the pieces people leave behind when they go. It's a bit lonely at first ..but in the fury of the blaze he realizes he's got this chance to start again. This is, after all, what he does.
