Brett Watts is a local award winning singer/songwriter/poet who is one of the brightest talents in the Texas Music Songwriting industry of today. Growing up (though he states he hasn't grown up yet!) in Arlington, Texas, his musical writing influences developed while working on ranches and riding rodeo during the many summers he spent living the life of a real cowboy. His writing style is planted firmly in the songs and poems of the American West. He blends his stories about rodeos, cowboys and trail drives with "traditional country" and "cowboy folk" melodies that comes from the heart of a true cowboy. While his melodies pay homage to some traditional country music, he is not, by far, limited to that in his writing ability. Instead of the so called "Nashville cookie cutter cowboy crap", Brett's writing fits in with the "Real Deals of Texas Music", such as Don Edwards, Red Steagall, Robert Earl Keen Jr. and Michael Martin Murphey to mention a few.

Brett's lyrics are emotionally full of strong realism listeners can identify with as proven clearly in his song, "Solid Ground", written for his daughter. His clear Texas accented vocals and accompanying live acoustic performances capture his audience's attention and leaves them in anticipation of his next song, delivered in his own distinctive style. Brett states, "I want to put Western back into Country Music".

"Brett writes and sings from the heart, he delivers Western music and poems because (unlike many) he has lived em'. Give him a good ear, you will be richly rewarded." -- Bruce Kidder / Program Director / KHYI Radio / Dallas-Ft.Worth

"Solid Ground", the much anticipated debut CD from Singer/Songwriter Brett Watts has finally arrived. With it's release, country music fans across Texas and around the world will get the chance to hear what his fans in Ft.Worth and Dallas, Texas have known for years "BRETT WATTS is the Real Deal". In the time honored tradition of Chris LeDoux, and Cowboy singer Don Edwards, Brett stands tall and delivers, whether he's singing songs about dreams and glory of that 8 seconds ride or his never ending love and appreciation for the greatest man in his life, his "Dad". Sandwiched nicely in between those songs, Brett sings about lost love, new love, the love of a father for his daughter and the quiet solitude of a cowboy still "Two Days Out" from his home and family with Christmas only three days away. Included on "Solid Ground" are three brilliant examples of Brett's cowboy poetry. These are sure to bring a wry smile to the faces of the greenest of greenhorns, as well as a hearty laugh from the crustiest of trail veterans. I'm proud to call Brett a friend and believe with the release of his self written, self produced freshman CD, it's easy to see that BRETT WATTS' future in country music is clearly on "Solid Ground" -- RICK GERARD President/ Ft.Worth Songwriters Association/1995
