Influences
Southern music of all types from Texas to Memphis to Macon to Miami... Blues, Country, Soul, Boogie, Jazz, Bluegrass, and Funk. Not to mention all the great local talent that Atlanta has had to offer for the past 15 years.
As far as musicians go, there are a lot of names and faces in Atlanta. Very few stand out in the crowd. Even fewer can work 200-300 days a year. It's this kind of extensive touring that makes a singer/songwriter/guitarist great. And only years of it can make them sing, write, and play with the power and expressiveness of Arcadian Records' Brian Cameron.
Born in a small Georgia town, he picked up singing and guitar playing from listening to his mother sing and picking his dad's guitar up off it's stand in the living room. Music was always being played around the house, mostly Southern Rock, Motown, Country, and Blues. The influence of classical music, jazz and bluegrass would come later as well, all slowly fusing into a unique sound.
At 12 he began to perform regularly and has only gotten busier since. With experience in music, theater, and television by the age of 15, he made a decision to stick to music and formed his own band with his brother. By 18, he had recorded a CD fronting 'the hourglass band' and began to acquire a large local following playing music with southern charm and a 'feel good' vibe.
As time passed by, Brian started picking up other instruments. He taught himself piano, saxophone, drums, bass, mandolin, and a Greek stringed instrument called the bazouki. But slide guitar would become the biggest part of this world. Always enamored by the playing of Duane Allman, Brian Cameron developed a slide guitar style that only added to his reputation. "I just love doin' it," Brian says with that ever-present smile. "Slide guitar just feels good to me, and people love to hear it. And if you can make folks feel good with your music, then you're doin' somethin'."
Then, in September of 2007, tragedy struck. A motorcycle accident left him with a spinal cord injury as well as a broken back and shoulder. Told his days of walking were over, Brian fought the odds and within six months was back on his feet and better than ever.
Brian Cameron's first ever solo album has been long awaited, and it's finally here. Taking on duties as singer, songwriter, and guitarist was not enough. He took on some piano parts, backing vocals, arrangements, and more. The songs take the listener on a journey through Love, Heartbreak, Loneliness, Longing, Self-Confidence, Self-Doubt, and Joy. "We all feel different feelings at different times," Brian told us matter-of-factly, "and the songs are a part of that. Nobody's happy or sad all the time."
Ten years after that first independent CD, the influence of Southern music has not faded from his songs. Neither has that 'feel good' vibe. It's Rock and Roll combined with soulful, bluesy vocals and fleet-fingered guitar work. It's not quite country, but it never loses that unmistakable (and irresistable) southern charm.
