Brian Horton studied Illustration and Fine Arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design from 1991-1994, after graduating he moved to LA to pursue his career. His clients include Disney, DreamWorks, Electronic Arts, Lucas Arts, Konami, DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics and many others. In the fall of 2006, Brian began a personal project entitled 'SCARS', a series of portraits born out of the phenomenon of the MySpace community. The series explores the expression of identity, and the collective experiences, both positive and negative, that contribute to that image. The paintings are bold and iconic; the models exude power and engage the viewer. Each image is laced with artifacts or situation that have personal significance to the model, crafting a narrative that brings a deeper meaning to the portrait.

SCARS: An Ongoing Series of Portraits
SCAR- Pronunciation [skahr]
1. A mark left by a healed wound, sore, or burn. Any blemish remaining as a trace of or resulting from injury or use.
2. A lasting aftereffect of trouble, esp. a lasting psychological injury resulting from suffering or trauma.
A scar by definition has negative connotations, but I see them as a reminder of life lived. We're born with a wound on our abdomen, evidence of our first trauma and our body continues to document experiences both physically and psychologically throughout life. I believe in biological predisposition, but it is our collective experience that influences the road we choose to take. This series explores individual expression and the beauty of our scars.
In the Fall of 2006 SCARS was born, a series of portraits inspired by the people I've met on MySpace and other online sites. If you're interested in working with me, shoot me a mail. I'm focusing on models in the Southern CA area at the moment so I can shoot reference. If I am painting your portrait, please fill out the 10 questions below, I keep all answers confidential.
1) Can you recall any experience or experiences in your life that affected you in a profound way, potentially influencing the person you are today?
2) Do you believe your outside appearance reflects who you are as a person?
3) Are you influenced more by positive or negative experiences?
4) If you have any, what do your tattoos mean to you, does any one have more significance than the others?
5) When life gets crazy where do you go to re-group? Where is your secret sanctuary?
6) What makes you feel most powerful/vulnerable?
7) If you were to take one thing to the grave what would it be? (Does not need to be practical)
8) Are you more emotional or analytical when you make big decisions?
9) If you were to relive any part of your life, what would it be and why?
10)What is your goal in life and where are you at in that journey?
Who I'd like to meet: This site is for anyone that loves art. I'm working on a series of fine art pieces and I'm looking for models. If you're interested, please let me know by sending me an email. Once I have more information on the content of the series I'll post the details.
