Born and Raised in Oakland California "Mr. Ambassador" Brian Jermaine also known as "BJ" or "Cyc" (short for "The Musical Encyclopedia"... because there arent many songs that he doesent know or cant learn on the spot)
Is a multi-talented 25-year old performer who has established a name for himself as an extraordinary entertainer and a reliable, respectable young man.
Brian is a Songwriter – Composer – Arranger - Producer and a very Accomplished Vocalist and Pianist.
In Addition to his musical talents Brian is a Poet(2007 Editors Choice Award Recipeint.. (2007 Ambassador Of Poetry) – Actor and has also been written up in several newspaper articles for his expertise as an Oratorical and Motivatonal Speaker.... Just call him a young Renissance Man.
Brian has composed over 100 original songs, He contributed several of his original songs as well as some remakes of cover songs to his demo and professional recording debut entitled Meet Brian Flax. He coordinated the studio sessions for this project with Victor Owens of Digisonic Recording Studios in Berkeley California.
Aside from his own solo career(which is on hold at the moment due to him seriously injuring his voice , with the exception of "Fifty Fifty Love" (Interlude) which is his 1st public recorded performance since his voice injury) , Brian has done Production and or Session work for some of the Bay Area's top Vocalist's - Performers and Producers Including:
Playing Piano For Derick Hughes
Ervin Dinwiddie(Vocalist/Songwriter/Producer) -
Shelanda Lemons(Vocalist/Songwriter)
Pheleta Santos(Vocalist)
Lisa Cruz(Vocalist/Songwriter)
Nina Causey(Vocalist).
In Late 2005 He ended a standing engagement at Joe’s Of Lafayette In Lafayette California as one half of a Musical Duo. They also performed on several occasions at The Cannery in San Francisco California.
Other events in 2005 include performing as a Vocalist/Pianist as the entertainment for 100 Black Men and 100 Black Women’s Scholarship Ceremony.
He also performs and inpersonates The Late Ike Turner in The Barron Edwards’ Motown 60's Review.
In November of 2004, Brian was the featured performer to open the Bay Area Idol Competition. During the competition he also provided piano accompaniment for several contestants. - Other events in 2004 include performing for the Grand Opening Ceremonies of Satin Lady Designs in June 2004, and also for God’s Liberated Rainbow, a two-day Gospel Extravaganza in April, 2004.
In 2003, Brian performed for the official Kwanza celebrations for the Cities of Vallejo and Oakland as well as for the official holiday opening ceremony for the City of San Leandro.
In November 2003, he Co-Wrote - Arranged and sang co-lead on a song entitled (Global Love) this song was entered into a World Peace Song Competition , He also wrote and recorded “Blessings” (a song he performed at Dr. Deborah Wafer’s retirement celebration.
It was around this time that he was given the alias
"The Ambassador of Peace and Love".
During the course of Brian's career he has been dubbed with many nicknames that include:
"Rainman" <== this nick name was given to Brian by friends who said that Brians hands can move so fast on the piano that the speed that his fingers hit the keys is the equivilant of raindrops falling on the ground.
"Mr. Ambassador" <== this name was given to Brian by a total stranger who heard his music and was so touched that he dubbed Brian "The Ambassador Of Peace And Love"
"Bossman" <== This name was given to Brian by one of his neighbors because she said "when you are in Brians presence and when u see the way he carries himself(especially for some one his age) you get a sense that he is in control of himself and his surroundings".
"The Young Father Figure" - This name was given to Brian by friends because He is always dropping knowledge or giving advice.. and also because their is something in Brians soul that makes him seem older and wiser and this comes across when you talk to him as well as in his music.
Thats why even when he was 13 Brian was able to perform songs that were made famous before he was even thought about and make audiences 2 and 3 times his age feel like they were being serenaded by a true master. and one of his family members is qouted as saying "Brian is too young to have that much soul"
People are often shocked and very impressed by his vast knowledge of Singers and music that came before him.. others are impressed by just how wide his musical spectrum is.. Brian can sing everything from Nat King Cole to John Legend without breaking stride.
On his 1st Project "Meet Brian Flax" he recorded 2 Sam Cooke Original Compositions (You Send Me a 1957 No.1R&B/Pop hit) as well as The haunting "A Change Is Gonna Come"and on his 2nd project "Introduction To A'Cappella Recording" he revisits songs that were made famous before his time yet again.
The project includes Sam Cooke's "Chain Gang" - Barbara Mason's "Yes Im Ready" - Bloodstone's "Natural High" - Curtis Mayfield's "Gypsy Woman" - Jester Hairston's"Amen" and The Temptations "Just My Imagniation and Ol Man River"
The project also includes What Many Have Called A Fabulous Arrangement Of Mahalia Jackson's "Troubles Of The World" as well as yet another song that he wrote entitled "Fifty Fifty Love"Interlude" both of which are featured on the music player above.
Yes Brian truly is "A Young Man With An Old Soul"
On His 3rd Project"Evolution" He remakes more timeless classics and puts the BJ spin on them.
A Tribute to the late great Isaac Hayes with the reconstruction of his Arrangement of"Walk On By" and Ike's own Instrumental"Hung Up On My Baby" -
A Remake of The Late Great Rick James's"Mary Jane" -
Charlie Wilsons's Calvin Richardson/Kenneth"Babyface"Edmonds penned "There Goes My Baby" -
The Late Great Donny Hathaway's "The Ghetto" and "Giving Up" - and the Isley Brothers's "Voyage To Atlantis".
Also this is the first project to introduce BJ to the world as a instrumentalist.
All the vocal songs are remakes with the exception of "A Piece Of My Heart", the other 3 original compositions are Instrumentals.
Alot of people criticize "BJ" because they say he should put his energy into making his own music instead of re-creating the songs of others.
One of BJ's Uncles is qouted as saying in reference to his "Introduction To A'Cappella Recording" CD " I dont know why you recorded that, you cant do nothing with it."
BJ often gets excited when he complete's a cover song that he worked hard on. He will often send them to his family.
One of his brothers never gets excited about the cover songs, truth be told he doesn't get excited about anything that he wasn't involved in making a contribution too.
When BJ as aksed to respond to people who feel that way he had this to say"Look at my Myspace page,"Hey Girl" has over 12,000 plays and "Im Finished Loving You" has over 11,000 plays.
4 of my original songs placed in the Top 40 on the soundclick charts
"He Knows" No.16 Soundclick Gospel charts
"Christmas Is A Time For Love" No.17 Soundclick Christmas/Seasonal Charts
"Hey Girl" No. 25 On The Soundclick Soul Charts
"May His Blessings Be With You" No. 34 On The Gospel Charts.
My songs are getting exposure.
"Hey Girl" is on so many mixtapes around the Bay Area its not even funny.
I'm just being me. Yeah Im a songwriter, but as a little boy there were always songs that i listened to growing up that had an impact on me.
If given the oppurtunity i wanted to record them to pay respect to the artist's who made them famous as well as the writers who wrote them, just as i hope songs that i have written will one day be re-recorded by some one who was impacted by them enough to want to record them.
Further more, Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway and Isaac Hayes were not only well known because of material that they created but they were also well known because they could dig deep into the songs of others and bring to forefront something that the previous singer and the writer didnt even know was there.
Burt Bacharach & Hal David Im sure had no idea that Isaac Hayes would pull out of "Walk On By" what he did and between Luther Vandross and Isaac Hayes Dionne Warwick doesn't even have a catelog aymore lol.
Bottom line, Remaking songs is apart of who i am, and im gonne be the me that i wanna be at all times - Brian Jermaine
In June, 2003, Pastor Carol Harris-Willoughby From New Life For Christ Ministries hired him as her MOM(Minister of Music).
At Skyline High School, Brian received instruction from Mr. Everett Baines as a member of the renowned advanced Choir, “The Voices of the Sky”.
As a member of the Voices of the Sky Brian performed at many public events, including the 1998 memorial services for Mayor Lionel Wilson. He was also under the instruction of Mr. Harley White and Mr. Ted Allen as the orchestra directors.
Brian was the first freshmen that was allowed to join the Performing Arts Academy he was also the first freshmen who was allowed to perform solo.
Brian performed solo for many of the schools events, from Concerts. Assemblies, Awards Banquets. Brian was also the youngest member allowed to perform with the
Bay Area Mass Choir, comprised of Churches of Christ all over the Bay Area.
In his Freshmen year at Skyline(1997) , Brian was asked by one of his instructors , Ms. Angela Wheeler (who is the cousin of one of the Bay Area's most awesome Vocalist's Mr. Derick Hughes) to write music to a poem that her mother had written and transform and arrange it into a song.
The song is entitled "Love Through All Seasons" .
(Lyrics Written By: Ann Weaver - Music Written and Arranged By: Brian Jermaine)
The general idea was for Derick to record the song on one of his future CD's , However due to the fact that Derick is a very busy man Ms. Wheeler requested that Brian record the song himself.
When Brian was asked about the change in plans he had this to say
"When i wrote the music to the song and arranged the lyrics i never had any intentions on singing it.. I have been a huge admirer of Derick ever since the 1st time i ever heard him sing so when i wrote the song i tried to write it as closley to his style as i possibly could.
When the song was presnted to him he loved it... he arranged it the way he wanted and made it sound even more like his own song.
To be able to play the piano and have your favorite singer in the whole world singing a song less then 10 feet away from you and on top of that he's singing a song that you wrote the music to was a mind blowing experience. I am honored to call him one of my main mentors as well as my friend and i look forward to working with him again."
In December, 1999 Brian was asked to compose a holiday song for the Skyline Orchestra to perform at the Holiday concert Following in the footsteps of one of his biggest influences Mr. Donny Hathaway who has been said to have written the 1st black mainstream Christmas song... Brian.. along with his Mother Pamela Flax( An Accomplished and well known Bay Area Vocalist in her own right) wrote “Christmas Is A Time For Love.
Brian sang lead vocals and supplied his own piano accompaniment and was also accompanied by The Skyline High School Orchestra. They received a standing ovation.
Brian has been acting and singing since elementary school, in school plays each year and in community theater musicals.
He was also in the television documentary, Black Is, Black Aint at age 7, appeared in a commercial advertising the East Bay Regional Parks at age 8. At age 10 he was written up for his oratorical expertise, reciting for Oakland’s M. L. King celebration.
In 1997, He appeared at Kimballs East(On of the most popular night clubs in the Bay Area) playing the role of a young Duke Ellington in the play” Bubbling Brown Sugar” .
He was also in The Black Repatory Theatre’s 1997 production of Lady Sings the Blues, reviving his role as a young Duke Ellington once again.
Brian performed in two other plays for the Repertory Theater that year, playing the roles of a minister in You Better Ask Somebody and a youth in Our Streets Our Neighbor-hoods.
Brian is a very spiritually grounded young man who is very serious about his work. He has aspirations to become a major part of the entertainment industry.

God was sitting in heaven 1 day when a scientist said to him, 'God, we don't need you anymore. Science has finally figured a way 2 create life out of nothing. We can now do what you did, in the beginning.' 'Oh is that so? Tell me', replies God. 'Well', he says, 'We can take dirt & form it into your likeness & breathe into it it, thus creating man.' 'Well that's very interesting, show me!' So the scientist bends down 2 the earth & starts to mold the soil into the shape of a man. 'No, no, no..' interrupts God, 'Get your own dirt!'
