Sanctuary Celebration Band - 1986
The song "Lora's Song" was recorded on a cheap boombox with built-in condenser microphones that was placed under a chair during a service at Sanctuary South Bay when they were using a building located at the beach in Hermosa or Manhattan Beach.
At Sanctuary South Bay, Bob Beeman had an idea to have a Celebration band that played more upbeat "Celebrating" type music and a separate Worship band to play worship music. The Worship band in 1986 included Kieth Allison, and Cherie and Glen Mancaruso. The Celebration Band had several incarnations but this particular line-up included the following:
- Brian Khairullah - Lead Vocals
- Doug Thieme - Lead/Rhythm Guitar
- Larry Farkas - Lead/Rhythm Guitar
- Roger Martin - Bass
- Steve Bertram - Drums
Doug and Larry are now in Once Dead.
Deliverance - 1986-90, 1992-93, 2000-01
I met Chris Hyde at Tom Sacko's Deacon Dog Studios in 1985 after he left Holy Soldier. He told me he was starting a band with his friend, Jimmy Brown. I met Jimmy not too long after that and we have been good friends ever since. They became Deliverance and went through a few different lead guitarists and bass players until they hooked up with another former member of Holy Soldier, Larry Farkas. Some time in the summer of 1986 Deliverance disbanded.
Chris, Larry and I began writing songs together to form a band with no name (we joked about calling ourselves "A Christian Band"). Chris invited Jimmy to one of our rehearsals and they discussed reforming Deliverance. Larry insisted that I be part of the new Deliverance, which Jimmy agreed to.
Larry eventually left Deliverance to join Vengeance Rising with Doug Thieme (who happened to be my roommate at the time), and I stayed with the band until late 1990.
I joined the band a second time during the recording of "Stay of Execution", and recorded "Intense Live Series - Vol. 1".
I joined Deliverance briefly a third time as guitarist in late 2000 while Jimmy was preparing to record "Assimilation". Major upheavals in my personal life, prevented me from remaining in the band and I left around March of 2001.
Max Blam Jam - 1991-92
After my first round in Deliverace, Glenn Rogers and I began writing songs together in a style very different from our previous bands. We recruited Cesar Ceregatti on bass, who had played with Glenn in Steel Vengeance, and Cesar's cousin Daniel Ceregatti on drums. We played a few shows in Southern California and disbanded after about a year.
We recorded a demo at a 16-track studio in Woodland Hills. Some of the songs included were Apathy's Child, Rescue Me, Because, and the original version of The Desert Song.
Daniel is now living in Brazil, Cesar is in Long Beach - not sure what he is up to, Glenn is playing guitar for Hirax and Once Dead.
Steve Wadleigh..
I have Steve to thank for introducing me to Glenn Rogers, Doug Thieme, Larry Farkas, Steve Valdez, and many more.
Thank you to Donna Skee and Jon Purpura for getting me back in touch with Steve. Ain't the internets awesome?
