..

The pictures tell the story.

But there is more to the story that you should know.

This little boy was killed in 1981 by a drunk driver.

The little boy was in his own driveway.

Since that little boy was killed,

there have been over 500,000 more killed.

In that same time there have been 2,500,000

additional victims that have been permanently damaged.

“People my age are not making the changes. People my age are not as mature as you. So it is for you to decide now whether to risk having some little child’s death on your conscience forever.”

The speaking program “No Accident" recounts a tragic incident which took place on August 21, 1981. On that day, a man who had no driver’s license, no car insurance, and who was drunk at the time, drove off to buy a pack of cigarettes.

On the way to the corner store, the driver struck Brian Robertson, who was riding his bike just outside his home. The driver crashed into the boy and dragged him 125 feet before the car was brought to a halt by the boy’s body and the crumpled bicycle.

Since that day, the boy’s father, Bert Robertson, has coped with the death of his son by speaking to students and offenders on the issue of drinking and driving, challenging today’s young people to be the generation which rejects this destructive behavior forever.

In “NO ACCIDENT”, Bert gently but powerfully contends that it was not simply one man who killed his son, but rather a society which condones drinking and driving as acceptable behavior.

.. David Elzey Volunteered in the fight against Drunk Driving for 17 years. One of the last things he did for the organization was to help get this video done. This is an amazing video about four people. One young driver that drove drunk, one victim, and two grieving mothers. This video is so important because it is easy to see that there are more victims of drunk driving than most people understand. It's not just the actual victim, but their families and friends.

This is a video of an old series of segments done on drunk driving by Jerry Turner of WJZ TV in Baltimore. It was the early to mid 1980's. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The video to the left is a Candlelight Vigil in Annapolis, Maryland in, I think, 1982. It was the early years of MADD when it was a very activist organization. All were volunteers or victims- there was no money. All work was organized in someone's kitchen. It was the time that MADD made a diffference. It seems to be just shuffling papers now- or at least that's the way it feels.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a video of Cindy and Laura Lamb- two of the most couragous people I have ever known. I had the chance to meet Laura and Cindy and it let us know that if they were strong enough to fight Drunk Driving-- so were we.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This is a video of Brian's Grandfather who was instrumental in getting sobriety checkpoints started in the state of Maryland----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Tucker at

Brian's funeral 1981

BRIANS WAY

My friend's son was quite a young man.

He was special in almost every way.

I will never forget his eyes

Shiny and black as onyx.

Run your hand through his hair,

Soft, smooth to the touch like velvet.

He was a crabber too,

But not really a waterman.

Every day with line and net,

He would set out for his catch,

And bring home more than Dad could pick,

I saw him many times, early and late,

But I never saw him tired

His energy had no limit.

Quickly he went here, then there,

Did this or that.

But as quick as he moved, he still had time

To stop and smell a flower.

His beautiful eyes appreciated beauty.

He could see the golden glory

Of a dandelion bouquet.

I wish he were here today because

He was special in almost every way.

Many things will make me think of Brian ...

Fudge sundaes, soccer balls, Andy's smile,

Running feet, dancing eyes.

And when I think of him I'll not ask why,

For the answer lends to a circle with no end

Instead I'll look ahead.

And when we meet again,

I'll ask those eyes about

The beauty of a dandelion.

We'll talk of sundae toppings,

And if I'm lucky, maybe,

He'll steam me a crab

Just like he did for his Dad.

BERT AND SHARON

THE FAMILY OF

BRIAN EDWARD ROBERTSON
