Danny Elfman and Bjork are my biggest musical influences. Left Eye was also a huge influence (RIP).
80's nouvelle vague, I love you, LOL!. Most of my music reflects my heavy new wave influence. I am influenced by everything though, as it should be. I think it's very important to be multi-well-rounded. You can't get to where you're going if you don't know where you came from.
Oingo Boingo is my favourite band of all time, hands down! I'm generally a quiet person, but get me talking about Boingo and I won't shut up. Some other bands I fancy are Bjork/ the Sugarcubes, Horrorpops, Franz Ferdinand, Sneaker Pimps, Stone Temple Pilots, Lovage, B-52s, Alice In Chains, Ladytron, the Cult, Nirvana, Smash Mouth, No Doubt, the Donnas, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bunny Rabbit + Black Cracker.
Madonna is a huge influence of mine, especially in Desperately Seeking Susan. That movie has a huge influence on me. Erotica is one of the best albums of all time. Some songs that have a heavy influence on me are "Caribbean Blue" by Enya, "Low" by Cracker, "Voices Carry" by Til Tuesday, and the ultimate "Spin Spin Sugar" by Sneaker Pimps My current ringtone on my phone is "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett.
I'm influenced by music videos that aren't shitty.
I'm also influenced by personal style. The worthy mentions are books by Kimora Lee Simmons, Nina Garcia, and Victoria Beckham. Also, I know Marilyn Monroe didn't want to be known for her curves, but Some Like It Hot is a fantastic movie for anyone struggling with a weight image. I value her curves because, in today's shit society, she helps me value mine. and she is a sex icon! I'd rather be a Marilyn Monroe than a Holocaust victim. (I hear that M. Monroe was a size 10-13 ladies)
I'm very much inspired by old movies. I love watching silent films whenever I get the chance. Some favourites are The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and the classic, Nosferatu. Old black and white horror films are the best. I love a thriller that leaves tons to the imagination! I like most Alfred Hitchcock films, also Plan 9 From Outer Space, the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Strangers On A Train. Life looks so much more elligant in black and white.
Twilight Zone is possibly the best show of all time. I also like black and white Bewitched.
Some other movies that inspire me are Weird Science, Pleasantville, Pulp Fiction, Go, Beetlejuice, Jawbreaker, the Commitments, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Donnie Darko, (Disney's) Alice in Wonderland, Big Fish, American Werewolf in London, Secretary, American Beauty. I so youtube old nickelodeon like Are You Afraid of the Dark. I love Solute Your Shorts, Clarissa Explains it All, Aahh Real Monsters, Nick Arcade, You Can't Do That On Television, Eureeka's Castle. I heart Sailor Moon (Japanese Subtitled). I love anything batman by default. DC comics are the best! WB's Birds of Prey is another heavy influence.
Halloween and Day of the Dead are huge influences on me. I have a fascination with skeletons. for YEARS skeletons have been for me a symbol of resurrection. Elvira is a riot!
Something that reflects in the lyrics I write is my internal struggle with nature and "civilized" society.
In my opinion, some of the best music out there is what you don't hear through the mainstream. I love hearing what people create when mainstream isn't watching.
