About me: BrightRedMarker is a small, friendly promotional organisation on the lookout for new friends, original music enthusiasts and talented independent artists. Be they singers, songwriters, poets, acoustic acts, artists,or puppeteers all are very welcome. At the minute BRM is showcasing a range of original singer songwriters in suitable venues across the North West of England. We have a regular night on the first Thursday of every month at the fabulous 'JACKSON’S PIT' in Oldham. Check out the videos on this site to see what you’ve been missing. This is a truly super venue, a real find. An underground cave of red brick arches and the warmest welcome that side of the Pennines. One of the best bits has to be the mirror in the ladies toilets! The guarantee is that if you turn up any time from 8.00, we’ll be there with a handful of fine performers to entertain and delight you. Can’t say fairer than that now, can we?
Less regular and more flexible with their dates are the incredible Better than Telly nights, hosted by two of Yorkshires finest acoustic music aficionados, in their living room. House concerts are a well established tradition in places like New Zealand and Australia where wide open landscapes can mean hundreds of miles to travel for good acoustic music. So, in true DIY fashion, consumers became their own providers and opened their doors to touring musicians. Better than Telly has so far been the proud host to Dave Hughes, Al Baker, Squab, Neil Sutherland and Napoleon Dynamite among others. Dave Hughes said it was the best gig of his recent tour of the NW and a full review can be found in BRM blogs. Dave will kick off the winter season for us on Thursday 4th September, alongside his pal Al Baker and a truly inspirational song writer we found in Huddersfield's Acoustic Club called James Bar Bowen. A full program will be available soon and will be advertised to friends of BRM only. If you are interested in coming along or indeed playing please get in touch with BRM in the usual way.
BRM do not use any form of 'pay to play' tactic so if, as an artist, you want to perform in front of a polite, intimate crowd, in atmospheric, laid back and intriguing venues then please contact us. Fees and expenses are, as always, negotiable and rely entirely on the contributions made by the audiences on the night. So far all our performers are clamouring for a return gig – we must be doing something right!
