Jean Grey is one of the most popular X-Men characters and as such has appeared in many different media versions of X-Men.
She began as Marvel Girl and became a profoundly popular character when she sacrificed herself to save her friends and rose again as Phoenix.
One of her most defining stories, the Dark Phoenix Saga, is considered by many to be one of the best comic book storylines ever.
In recent years, Jean Grey was an important character in Grant Morrison's critically acclaimed New X-Men run (2001-2004) and was featured in a Sold Out mini series Phoenix Endsong (2005).
However, both New X-Men and Phoenix Endsong left Jean Grey aka Phoenix dead or in a state of limbo. We feel it is time for Phoenix to return.
Jean Grey is usually at the emotional center of the X-Men as she has close bonds to many of the characters. She is Cyclop's former wife, like a daughter to Xavier, a kindred spirit to Wolverine, and genetic 'mother' to various characters.
With her awesome telepathy and telekinesis and inspiring Phoenix imagery, Jean Grey is the powerful and beautiful girl next door. Her connection to the transcendent Phoenix also makes her an archetype appealing to many. Being both human and a goddess, Jean's duality of compassion and fiery passion makes her a fascinating character.

Hey Bring Back Jean/Phoenix, I am sending you a gift. Could you please accept it.
So I read everyone's comments about Jean Grey and Messiah Complex and I wanna share my thoughts on the subject:
I don't think the Messiah -- the baby -- is Jean Grey at all. When you think about how Phoenix: Endsong ended, Jean Grey returned to the White Hot Room to gather the Phoenix's shattered pieces. She is very much alive given she was resurrected at the beginning of the Endsong storyline. She's simply on a higher plane of existence for the time being.
So who could else could this infant possibly be? Red hair? Green eyes? Powerful mutant? There is another character notably with green eyes, red hair, and a very great resemblance to Jean who did in fact die and was quite powerful once her psychokinetic powers were unleashed. This could possibly be the Messiah infant. Can you say, Madelyne Pryor?
Just something to think about. Let that marinade for a little bit.

in case no one read the first issue of secret invasion today. it shows phoenix back on earth. whether she is a skrull or the original has yet to be revealed. will be interesting to see how they write this and whether or not they mess up any back stories.
