   About Bringing the House Down
Bringing the House Down (BTHD) was born when the Art of Regeneration Initiative at the National Theatre contacted Nii Ayikwei Parkes in 2003 about developing a performance poetry showcase that was engaging and featured poetry of the highest quality. Using his extensive contacts from touring in the UK and the US, Nii brought together (through his arts programming organisation London Slam Central - LSC) a debut line-up that featured, from the UK, Zena Edwards and himself and from the US emerging poets Jive Poetic and Mahogany Browne, Nuyorican Slam Team member Ainsley Burrows, European Tour veteran and multiple Slam champion Taalam Acey, and Def Jam alum, anti-Nike rebel, "Bagdhad B-Boy" from LA, Jerry Quickley. The launch show of BTHD was so successful that almost 150 people had to be turned away at the door. In 2004, a line-up featuring more UK poets and also reflecting the Albany and LSC's development ethos by introducing 2 debutants sold out again and that got the Albany and LSC thinking. As a result of that, 2005 saw the launch of the BTHD Festival - the first ever touring spoken word festival with Da Boogieman as the headline act. The Festival continues as a bi-annual event, and BTHD works with artists all year round to develop spoken word magic!

Writers @ Edit Red

Apr 23 2007 3:10 PM

'City Smells' is a new literary project set up by the Edit Red Writing Community.

We are running three writing competitions, Flash Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction and Poetry, all with the theme 'City Smells. The winners of each of these competitions will win $100. But more than this, we will take the best work from each competition and compile a paperback 'City Smells' anthology. The writers who make it into the 'City Smells' anthology will each receive free copies of the book and be paid a royalty in book sales.

To submit to these competition and stand a chance of being published in the 'City Smells' book you must be a member of Edit Red, as the submission process is automated. Joining Edit Red and entering these competitions is 100% free. If you make it into the book, we will pay royalties based on book sales.

If you are not already a member, we hope you will join us and take part in this great literary event. Visit editred.com for free membership and lots of great writing opportunities.

Regards
Alan, Sean and Chris
