MEDIA RELEASE – 30 May 2007 10th Pride Fair Day performance by Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir
16 June 2007 will mark the 10th Pride performance by Brisbane’s own queer choir, the Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir.
Pride in the title, and proud they are to be part of Brisbane’s premier celebration of the GLBTI community, the Choir’s performance on 16 June will also mark the start of a year of celebrations.
“We have an exciting year planned to celebrate the Choir’s first decade on the Brisbane performing arts scene”, said Marina Aboody-Thacker, the Choir’s Musical Director.
“From the Choir’s inception in early 1998 and our first Pride performance in mid ’98, we have developed a strong choir of 60 GLBTI singers”, said Ms Aboody-Thacker. “With our first full CD launched in 2006 and the Choir performing at Melbourne Town Hall in February 2007 as part of the Australasian ‘Out and Loud’ Festival, we are looking forward to celebrating our Choir’s 10th anniversary year.”
The Choir’s CD is titled ‘Equality’, the name of one of the 13 tracks, written by members of the Choir. Pop classics, African rhythms, a little swing and protest songs all feature on this CD, which can be purchased at Rocking Horse Records in Brisbane and on-line at http://www.rockinghorse.net.
The Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir are always looking for new singers. The Choir rehearses every Tuesday night at 7.30 pm at St Mary’s Church, Peel Street, South Brisbane.

The Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir first performed at the 1998 Pride Fair Day. This performance was such a rewarding experience for the singers and so well received by the community that the participants decided the choir should continue. Nine years on, the Choir is now a strong community group,
and will begin to celebrate its first decade on the Queensland
performing arts scene with its 10th Pride Fair Day performance on 16
June 2007.
Eight costumes, 100 songs, six interstate trips and many concerts later, we just love singing.
Our musical director is Marina Aboody Thacker.
Marina has been with the choir since the very beginning. She has worked in the community sector as a musician and administrator with many community groups including the Victorian Trade Union Choir (Melbourne) and the Multicultural Arts Group.
She currently conducts The Combined Unions Choir the West End Women's Chorus and The African Women's Choir , also in Brisbane. Marina has two children, works as a Community Artist and ESL teacher and sings with the vocal ensemble, Petit Four.
