Welcome to the MySpace presence of www.bristolbands.com. We are a FREE resource for the music community in the Bristol/Bath area of the UK.
Since April 2007 BristolBands.com has been promoting FREE ENTRY Showcase nights at The Fleece. As well as established acts, we're making sure the new up and coming talent gets a chance to play. Over 2 years later, and we have arranged more than 150 gigs, with over 400 different bands playing and at least 50 world debut performances. Check out out photos and videos links for a sample of the brilliant bands who have played for us.
In 2008 we officially moved into promotions, so as well as nights at The Fleece, we appeared at venues across the region with events including touring and visiting bands. It is our remit to ensure there is at least one local act on every bill!
For 2009, as well as our regular events at The Fleece, we are promoting live gigs at various other venues across the area.
The site layout of www.bristolbands.com contains artist information, photos and link to the band website(s), plus an upcoming gig list, venue information and a map. We also provide information on Artist Support features like promoters, studios, labels, etc and information on how to get tickets.
The info is linked, so clicking on a gig will show who else is on the bill with the music genre (so you get a feel for what type of night to expect): clicking on a band detail will give you a short profile, plus website links and show their gigs, and clicking on a venue will tell you a bit about it and show all the gigs at the venue....well you get the idea.
We're developing the site constantly. We have streaming audio online (the MySpace player plus one on bristolbands.com, which contains loads of music and which you can have running in the background while you browse).
We also have a Forum where anyone can sign up to post gigs, band details, musicians wanted, etc etc. There's even a rant section where you can let off some steam about something that irritates the shit out of you!
As we start 2009, we have over 5000 bands on the database (over 2000 of which are 'local') and list over 500 venues that put on live music.
We've added to the team for our gig reviews. We're also improving the quality of the photos and venturing into video.
We need the support of the bands, venues and fans to help us keep up to date with what is going on, so we can then post the info on the site.
PLEASE NOTE: Artists will only be accepted as Bristolbands MySpace Friends if they are located in the BS and BA postcode areas of the UK, if we are promoting their gigs or we really, really REALLY like them...a lot.
A broken king has swept his Queen aside Another waits in the trembling wings Crushed, the spirit of the first. He moves to the second, And bellows His desire.
Lair! Quick, tell him he is right and proper. He will grunt and move to the bedroom with his Brave new bride.
The former Gloriana flees down a dark damp corridor to a waiting Carriage as fat as her king's gut. She stifles a dissident laugh and ponders her stars fate and Whether her head is let or late.
In the bedroom, the pig-king grunts and squeezes till eyes pop out. He is spent and ready bored, more; his back is killing him, he wonders What he's done And falls asleep.
His gut wakes his arse and his eyes The bride giggles at his girth and he wishes for the first again.
I'm happy to announce that my new album "Songs From The Films Of David Lynch" is out now.
"Truly unsettling and perplexingly brilliant... testament to both the quality of Lynch’s soundtracks and Truax’s talents" - The Skinny
"Truax is paying homage to a kindred spirit with this album. It's the best kind of tribute – affectionate and respectful, but with its own quirks and imaginative leaps and its own distinct identity." -The Scotsman
Hey, haven't seen you in ages! (Hannah from Thyrd Eye formerly Forgotten Sleep) If there are any gig slots available give us a shout. We are doing a gig at The Cavern Club (under the Crown pub) on Friday 10th July if you fancy seeing/listening to our new stuff. We have a single coming out in September too! Hanx
what is wrong for me to do? to kiss a child not mine, or drink from a stranger's cup.... when I die from thirst, to wish happiness when all around are sad?
To admire the sun, on the flower-head, yet curse the black sweat night, these things come natural to a mind that thrives on dreams of a better world, yet fellow man conditions play to travel in his wake and love would not forsake a single one.
In my dreams, there are many trees They are lost faces: Friends, Lovers, Pets and a parent.
They fade in and out with the wind and the wishing.
The oak is rare. THe silvery birch, Common Like the thrashings From my youth.
The father tree is not here or rather, he is hidden in my rage and tears (Vilians and Angels have witnessed this.) A midden root may hold him, but I am tired of old dreams That blame,
And besides how can I moan when he taught me to sing Such authentic blues.
I'll get to her So I feel full of face I'll crawl all the corners Till every drop of blood Is traced Except for for what Ted hid Or washed away In the raining myth Of his backside I'll count on my fingers All the music notes Excused, Not played Caught in her cough Of ashes FRom the critics air-raid With Hughes guilding ark-light
And I shall haunt All the ghosts Her poems have made Except for the trinity Suicide slayed To bleed in my dreams To build up your sea That I may make wave And pull the rope free From dark Yorkshire pit buried to be Unimportant,Pull out the hot poker That branded you sick And sail You to seas That swallow all the suns Including the one Raw, And made gone.
