Wielding A sound that is equal parts Isis, Helmet and Tool, Merrick are a slightly odd beast, But then they are named after the infamous 'Elephant Man' Joseph Merrick. With a propensity for rolling riffs, eerie guitar harmonies and a mixture of throaty screams and Maynard James Kennan-esque wailing, they aim to make dents in your head, while making you think seriously about how they got there. There's no denying their musical chops and there's some seriously weighty riffs at work.

Just Chromosome is heavy stuff, but not in that faster-louder-more distorted way. Oh no, this is heavy music with subtlety to it. A damned good job for a self-released album - it's rare to find one that manages to mix quality and promise quite as well as this.

Perhaps the biggest compliment that can be paid to Merrick is that they've succeeded where so many have failed and made intelligent sounding metal music. Opening track 'Ten Times' is a stand out track, demonstrating that Merrick are a band with ambitions. There seem to be some clear influences that have shaped the sound of Merrick and it is to their credit that the likes of Deftones and Pitchshifter instantly spring to mind upon first listen. The tracks here show enough ambition to suggest that Merrick could go on to better things, ones to keep an eye out for sure.

Merrick play a powerful alternative blend of rock and metal while lyrically and vocally the band have the rocks to lift themselves above the ordinary. The album twists and turns but remains steadfastly heavy as ***k

As you may or may not be aware SoundARC hold a charity gig every year at Club 85 in Hitchin in aid of the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, and this year we are going to try something a little different from previous years.
This year we are going to take over the club and host 37 acts in one weekend putting full bands upstairs and acoustic acts downstairs in an event that we are calling ARCfest!
It all starts on Friday 4th December at 7pm and then continues on through Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th from 12pm-11pm
As well as raising money for the Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, ARCfest will showcase all the different genres of bands that we at SoundARC have come across over the last 4 and a half years. Over this weekend a lot of the acts that you will see don’t get a chance to play a great local venue like Club 85, So as well as hearing new music you will see all manors of genres and styles from acoustic - Metal - Indie - Rock - Punk - Electro - Ska - Funk - Hip Hop/Rap - Alternative - Rhythm & Blues - Reggae - Grunge and loads more that I cant remember!
Just wanted to stop by and say, You're new cd is fucking kick ass. There is not one time in the day that I dont listen to your guys' material on my ipod. You guys are one of my favorite bands I have ever heard. I am glad I am alive to witness this new revolution in rock.

Hugely enjoyed your set last night guys. Absolutely massive!! The things Marcus can do with his voice are incredible. Was awesome to tread the boards with a band of your calibre again. Here's to the next time!
