''Thank you for joining us in our 'Integration of British Born Chinese into politics project'. This is a project we have been working on for the past few months, but has been an aspiration of ours for a much longer period of time.''

''The reason we think it is so important to launch this campaign is because it is time for chinese people to stop being the 'silent community'. There are 3 generations of chinese people in England and we are the 3rd largest ethnic minority in the country, yet in parliament, there are represesntatives in all ethnicities, apart from us. Something needs to be. We as chinese people need to take action and to be more willing to stand up as a unit and make sure we are represented politically. We need to have representatives for chinese people in british politics, so we have a voice and will no longer be ignored and unheared.''

''There are many british chinese people like yourselves who have integrated into mainstream society. They are young professionals and high achievers. However, the attitude is that they do not need politics, and politics does not need them. They do not feel the need or desire to get involved. This sort of thinking is flawed. Without a strong political voice for chinese people, the idea of equal opportunites regardless of race and colour will remain an ideal not a reality. Our vision is that one day, on both local and national levels there will be chinese representatives. There will be no barriers. There will be chinese people in all different sectors and politics will be a part of chinese peoples' lives.''

''The objective of this project is to let you know that there are opportunities for british chinese to be integrated into politics. If you are willing to participate we are just opening the doors for you. It is upto you whether or not to walk into it.''

''The benefits of this project may not be evident immediately, but this project is not only about the immediate or present. It is about the future of the chinese people in Britain. We are hoping that through this project, it will encourage more young british chinese people like yourselves to be involved in, to be interested in, to take an active part in politics.''

COHAN - It was very interesting to be, to go round the House of Lords. It is a very rare opportunity. It was interesting to see how they argued what they argued about.

MICHAEL- I came into this project a real novice in politics. I was really interested in all the stuff that my mum was doing, and I was seeing her influence growing throughout the years and I’m very proud of this_. And I wanna know what she’s doing and how she does it. And that is why I consider London and I’ve done my experience and I really enjoy it. I found it really exciting to find out what it was like to work in a Parliamentary office. I found it all very interesting and thoughtful.

If you are a member of the BBC community check out our photos, to see if you are in there, for everyone to see.

NEXT BIG EVENTS

In the summer, China Now is hosting an event in Birmingham to raise awareness for the British Born Chinese community. All are welcome.

OCTOBER - Wing Wah Restaurant, Birmingham - 400 chinese business people will be invited who could not make it to the previous reception. The aim is to raise funds to support homegrown talent to participate in the China Now Festival. Last year, we raised £22,300 in 30mins!
