Brito (pronounce: Breetoo) is a noise/hardcore trio from Groningen, The Netherlands. The band was formed in 2006 by Pascal (guitar, vocals) and Ariën (bass, vocals).
The two know each other from ReflectCriticizeAct (instrumental post-rock), in which Ariën does spoken word and Pascal plays the drums. Ariën leaves that band prematurely, however, due to lack of time and work with his other band Elevator Repulsion Noise.
After that, for a number of years they meet only occasionally. During this time Pascal (ex-Office Killer) is playing in Los Asesinos de la Superficialidad and Grinding Halt and Ariën is working on a jazz/postrock project called People Like Frank. One day Pascal asks Arien to start a new band. While searching for a drummer, they start writing songs in the veins of bands like Shotmaker , Unwound and The Red Scare. After a long search, they are joined by drummer Maarten (ex-Marat, ex-Go revolution Go!).
From the outset Ariën and Pascal had intended the key characteristic of the music of Brito to be energy. With Maarten playing drums they feel they have finally achieved that aim. Musically, the main influences of Brito come from the nineties: driving, noisy hardcore with screamed emotional vocals.
Brito play their first show in the Vera basement on October 13th, 2007. In January 2008 the band recorded the 12 inch "This Wave is Only for the Good-Hearted, that is now released as a split-label release of De Graanrepubliek (Groningen, The Netherlands) and of Strictly No Capital Letters (Norwich, England). Through 2008 they performed on Thrashfest and toured the Netherlands an the UK. They are now busy with new songs for a future release somewhere in 2009

Brito (spreek uit: Brietoe) is een noise/hardcore trio uit de stad Groningen. De band is opgericht in 2006 door Pascal Kamphuis (gitaar, zang) en Arien Siertsema (bas, zang). De twee kennen elkaar via een oproep voor RCA (Reflect, Critizice, Act), een instrumentale postrock groep. Arien neemt de spoken word passages voor zijn rekening. Wegens tijdnood en werkzaamheden met de groep Elevator Repulsion Noise stapt hij uit de band en RCA gaat uiteindelijk verder als viermans formatie.
Een jaar of vijf zien de twee elkaar af en aan. Pascal (Office Killer) speelt in Los Asesinos de la Superficialidad en Arien probeert het jazz/postrock project People Like Frank van de grond te krijgen. Totdat Pascal Ariën vraagt om met hem een nieuwe band op te richten. In de lijn van bands als Shotmaker, Unwound en The Red Scare beginnen ze met z’n tweeën nummers te schrijven. Een drummer hebben ze dan nog niet. Na verschillende drummers uitgeprobeerd te hebben voegt Maarten van der Werf (Marat, Go Revelution Go) zich bij de band.
Met Maarten achter de drumkit lukt het eindelijk om dat te bereiken wat Arien en Pascal voor ogen hadden als belangrijkste kenmerk van de muziek: energie. Het drietal grijpt vooral terug op de jaren negentig en maakt stuwende, noisy hardcore met emotionele schreeuwzang, met 'hoekig' en 'dwars' als verdere mogelijke omschrijvingen.
Op 13 oktober, 2007 maakt Brito haar debuut in de VERA kelderbar. Begin 2008 gaat het drietal de studio in om hun eerste plaat (12 inch) "This Wave is Only for the Good-Hearted" op te nemen. Deze is nu uit op het Groningse label De Graanrepubliek en het Engelse label Strictly No Capital Letters. In 2008 speelt Brito o.a op Trashfest en tourden ze door Engeland. Op dit moment is de band bezig met het schrijven van nieuwe nummers voor een release in 2009.
