Novelist/screenwriter turned songwriter, Britta Lee Shain is impressing audiences with her edgy lyrics and vocal style. In addition to her solo career--and the occasional performance with an accidental posse--she can most often be seen performing with the San Diego based band, the Howling Coyotes. She has just finished recording her first solo CD with renowned multi-instrumentalist Freddy Koella at the helm.

Moved to Philly and made it her home
But all the music in China
Couldn’t make up for her being born
Not a day went by she didn’t feel less than

She sent her mom the check from the strip club
But she never forgave daddy what he done
She drove up to your concert at Freeport
Snuck backstage in Omaha
Saved dollar bill tips for a trip to Europe
Sat front row center in Warsaw
She loved the words you wrote about her
Even though you never had met
Your TV eyes they looked right through her
In a way she could not forget
Life is just a crap shoot, sailor
Doesn’t matter who you are
Your legend had lived ten lives without you,

You can almost smell it, she’s out there in that crowd now
The question’s not if she’ll get to you, the question is how
She asked the man at the front desk
Was there anyone famous staying there?
She gave him all she had so freely
He felt like a zillionaire
Room service you didn’t order
Last supper you didn’t want
All on account of some bad parenting down in PA
And a hotel clerk too nonchalant
They’ll read about you in the papers
They’ll hear about her on the news
They’ll find you dead on your verandah
Wearin’ nothin’ but your boxin’ shoes
Her father will attend the hanging
Her mother will stay home and say a prayer
There’ll be a book or two about it
Before there’s nobody left who cares
