Britt Motorsports was started as a family business in 1976 by Roy Britt in a small one-room shop in Wilmington, North Carolina. During the course of the next nine years, Britt Motorsports would make four moves. In 1985, Roy Britt built a 7,500 square foot dealership which today houses Yamaha and Kawasaki motorcycles, ATVs, and Watercraft. In the fall of 2006, Britt Motorsports moved into a state of the art 25,000 square foot facility in Wilmington, NC, which houses Yamaha, Kawasaki, Big Dog Motorcycles, Ridley Motorcycles, American Iron Horse, and most recently Big Bear Choppers as well as home of Britt Customs.

It was in 1992 that Roy’s son Scott came to work full time in the business. During that time, Scott would not only learn the business side of Britt Motorsports, he would continue to pioneer the design of custom metric motorcycles. In 1998, Roy Britt turned over Britt Motorsports to Scott, who expanded the business and now owns and operates multi franchised dealerships in Wilmington, Jacksonville, AND New Bern, North Carolina.

Roy’s daughter, Debbie, would step in to the family business full-time in 1994 as the business manager and currently is the Finance Director for the Wilmington location.

Over the past several years, it would be Scott’s two sons, Garrett and Dane, that came to work in the dealership as well.

From the beginning when Roy Britt opened a one room shop, to Scott Britt being the driving force behind Britt Motorsports, the business continues to grow in Eastern North Carolina and throughout the country.

Today, between Scott’s four dealerships, Britt Motorsports houses Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Big Dog Motorcycles, American Iron Horse, Ridley Motorcycles, Polaris, and most recently Big Bear Choppers, in addition to Britt Customs located out of the Wilmington store.
