"Soul Country" by Chuck Eddy of Village Voice Magazine, New York
"Straight Ahead" is the maiden voyage for singer Brityn Lotz - and there's no turning back. With Brityn in full command of the vocal helm, you won't want to stop the journey. Once you join her on her trek with 'Lost Without You," you're hooked. Taking her stylistic cues from pathfinder Aretha, Reba, Faith and Shania, Brityn's song trail leads through original tracks as well as soulful covers of "I Feel the Earth Move" and "Knock on Wood." Displaying the nerve of a daring explorer and the subtlety, wit and maturity of a seasoned musical traveler, Brityn is in full control of this expedition. Whether winding through the intricate vocal curves of "What a Heart Will Do for Love" and "Wild Frontier," masterfully negotiating the sassy "One Eighty" and "I Don't Play That Game," confidently conquering the road "Back to Lafayette," or pushing the spiritual stratosphere of "Lightly" and "There Will Come a Day," your guide will wring your emotions to exhaustion. Then you'll want more! Rest assured, more will come. But for now, join Brityn as you both move "Straight Ahead."
Brityn Lotz started singing at an early age performing for schools, fairs and festivals. She developed her performance skills through dancing and acting. Since the age of seven, she has participated in many dance competitions and drama productions. The experience she gained developed her stage appeal that has won her numerous awards at local fairs and talent competitions across the south, generating a huge fan base and following. Her singing ability was self-taught up to the age of sixteen. She entered a Hometown Stars Competition and won the overall title which afforded her the opportunity to open for world renowned Pete Fountain at a benefit concert held at the Columbia Theater in Hammond, and, also a demo recording deal with Suncoast Records.
Suncoast Records (Recording Studios and National Artist Development Center) has been working with her providing vocal development, media training, stage presence, song writing and developing her as a national level entertainer. That is when she began realizing her dream. She has worked relentlessly on her singing career putting in countless hours at the recording studio. Her producer, Ben Hastings has worked developing her vocals and building her as an artist and one year later, he and partner, National Recording Artist and Co-Producer, Steve Grisaffe (Lead singer of River Road) produced her first album, "Straight Ahead" which was released in March 2005. Also appearing on her album is the band River Road of Capitol and Virgin Records. Her album was mixed by Danny Kadar (SONY New York, 8 yrs.) and mastered by Parker Dinkins (Master Digital).
In November of 2005, Brityn opened for National Country Entertainer Rick Trevino for “Live Relief”, a Live Aid Outdoor Concert benefiting United Way and Livingston Parish Emergency Fund for the aid of Katrina victims. In May of 2006, she was given the opportunity to open for Wayne Toups & Zydecajun, a Louisiana Legend.
In January 2006, Brityn performed on Dew Drop Inn, a live music television show by Orpheus Productions in partnership with Cox Communications. The television show is shown in ten major markets nationwide and has a viewing base of ten million households per week. Dew Drop Inn showcases original artists from Louisiana.
Her producers refined and melted her southern sultry sound (called “Soul Country”) which has a combination of influences from Shania Twain, Reba McIntyre, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes to Wynonna Judd. According to her producer Steve Grisaffe, he says "She is unique, that is what sets her apart from others. Not only does she have the talent and beauty, she has the hunger and work ethic to succeed." Her producer Ben Hastings says "She has the drive and determination to be at the top and is very committed to her career, and performing is a natural thing for her. When she takes the stage, she comes alive.” As she commented in a radio interview, "The stage is my home, that's where I feel most comfortable". Her dedication, passion and commitment to be an entertainer will take her "Straight Ahead".
