At only two years of age, Brityn Mykhail Martin knew what she aspired to be. “I would always run around the house, dancing, singing, making faces- anyway to entertain people,” she says. Her mother and father quickly observed her natural talents, and enrolled her in as many dance classes as possible. Tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, lyrical, and contemporary styles of dance were all that mattered to the young dreamer, who rehearsed at the dance studio for over 30 hours a week and competed in as many competitions as she could get her hands on. Besides her dancing passion, Brityn began figure skating at the age of four, and dedicated half of her time practicing for those competitions, as well. At six years old, she would take an interest in singing, and acquire vocal lessons from the same coach as Ace Young, who would appear on “American Idol” years later.
Her hard-work paid off. At only 10 years old, Brityn was invited to perform on a national NBC TV-show called “America’s Most Talented Kid.” Although she had just injured her foot with a major stress-reaction, Brityn performed like a true superstar and ended up winning the episode in her age category. She was invited to make guest appearances on Colorado 9News as well as “The TODAY Show.” Continually, big-named stars would comment on her maturity and charisma. Matt Lauer, who interviewed her for the segment, asked while laughing, “My goodness, are you 10 or 43?”
By this time, Brityn had already conversed with some huge names in the entertainment industry. Mario Lopez, Vivica Fox, Lance Bass, Shelia E., and Danny Bonaduce, were just a few among the many. While on AMTK, Brityn would meet other kids who would soon become just as famous, such as JoJo, Diana DeGarmo, Taylor Lautner, and Jordin Sparks. Having worked with hit NBC producer Stuart Krasnow, Brityn felt blessed having already had so many amazing opportunities; but she had no idea what was yet to come.
Soon, Brityn would come to learn the joys of theater, which would allow her to express dancing, singing, and acting at the same time. She played Baby June in “GYPSY,” Pippi in “Pippi Longstocking,” Louisa in “The Sound of Music,” Susan in “Narnia,” and Becky Two Shoes in “Urinetown.” After being nominated for “Best Younger Actress,” by John Moore in the Denver Post, it was the production of “Urinetown” that brought Brityn to her next stage of fame. There, she met an accomplished musician in his own right, who would help her with the making of her first CD, “Heartbeat.”
Quickly, Brityn bought her own piano and guitar and taught herself how to play both easily. She dropped her last name for the more original stage-name, “Brityn Mykhail.” Over the course of a year, she would write the lyrics and music for over 30 songs, 14 of which would make it on the CD. Her “Triple Threat” title would become even more; she could dance, act, sing, compose, write, and arrange, making her just as unique as any hit celebrity on the charts today.
When the CD released on Memorial Day weekend of 2008, Brityn made Colorado history as the “Youngest Recording Artist in the State of Colorado to Release a Self-Written Album.” Her concert has all the glitz, glamour, and splendor of any Vegas-styled show. Every scene has a separate costume, set change, lighting cue, and dance routine, choreographed by dance professionals and Brityn herself, that are performed by her personal background dancers. There are moments of true acoustic talent, as well, when Brityn sits down at a piano and belts out intense lyrics far beyond the understanding of any other 16-year old.
At the end of 2008, Brityn was nominated to the Grammy list for “Best POP Vocal Album” and “Best Female POP Vocal.” She has made two music videos alongside director Spencer Reed; one for the track “Duplicate,” and another for the track “Illegal,” which is scheduled to air to the public on March 21st, 2009.
Becoming Colorado’s next big thing, Brityn has performed on “Colorado and Company,” and “Fox 31,” as well as around the Denver-Metro area at the Pepsi Center, Coors Field, Rapids Stadium, Invesco Field at Mile High, and Broomfield Events Center. One thing is for sure, as numerous newspaper articles have touted, “The perfect storm of talent, drive, and guts” that is Brityn Mykhail, is not sure to disappear any time soon. Watch for her in a venue near you!
