When asked about a year ago to conduct a worship service at my Church on a topic of my choice, my first thought was to construct a service on the teachings of Yoda. The service was well attended and well received, and I was asked to conduct it again on February 19, 2006. (Click to read the sermon or the text to the entire service. You can also listen to me flub though... er, read the sermon as an MP3. )
Personally, the service allowed me to look into my own spirituality and better understand the influence of the ways of the Jedi, and how I can utilize them for my own spiritual enrichment. I have since researched many on-line avenues and have discovered that I am not alone in this quest. There is a growing Jedi movement worldwide - one that at some point may be unified. (Understandibly there is currently much conflict on almost every aspect of its construction.) In the meantime, I thought I'd make my own little spot in cyberspace wherein I could both explore this path and pass on what I have learned.
While I already have a personal MySpace Page I have decided to create a page for this "alter-ego," if you will, (albeit derrived from my true thoughts and feelings). Here I will post my thoughts and observations in my blog. My hope is for anyone interested to read my blogs and take with them what they will, regardless of their religious and philosophical standpoint.
Bri-Yinn's Jedi garb is modeled after Obi-Wan Kenobi's Episode III costume, and it was pieced together from several different sources. The tunic, sash, inner belt, tabards and pants were made by Eve Mulligan of California. The inner belt supports the sash and its ties at the end dangle as symbolic reminder of the Jedi Code. The outer belt was made by Simon Poon of Singapore – both contracted via eBay. The boots are simply tall pirate boots ordered via BrandsOnSale.com, and the robe was ordered from StarWars.com.
The lightsaber was constructed not from any particular Jedi's hilt, but rather following the advice of Kin-Char Bamin, that there are no rules and that construction reflects the mood and character of the person who builds it. It is 12 1/4" long and features a bell-like emmiter, a power button with a safety, blade length adjust switch, and blade power adjust switch. It clips to the belt via a triangular "D-ring" attached to the bottom of the hilt.
The D-ring is reminiscent of the Ep. IV - VI trilogy (as opposed to the CommuniTech clips of the Ep. I - III trilogy), while the "red button" power switches are reminiscent of the Ep. I - III trilogy (as opposed to the "thumb switches" of the Ep. IV - VI trilogy). Thus the hilt pays homage to both the classic and later-day Jedi styles.
There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no chaos; there is harmony
There is no death; there is the Force.
Now this is not a denial that such things like emotion, ignorance, passion, etc. exist, because obviously they do, and to think otherwise would be a lie. However, this code is in regard to the qualities with which one should act, and to which qualities one should not be attached.
As both a minister of the Universal Life Church and a Master of the Temple of the Jedi Order, I am authorized in most states to officiate wedding ceremonies. I can perform Jedi-style ceremonies, or any service you would like. Let me know!
One of my very close friends have lost a loved one and in my passion to help them overcome their pain in the grieving process, I unconsciously stumbled upon unresolved grieving for a loved one I lost many years ago that I never dealt with and did not realize it until now. I have been unconsciously sabotaging my network of friends on myspace (responding in fear in hopes to not feel this pain again) by putting pressure, being pushy and giving conditions on my friendship here on myspace to do with subscribing. Now that I am conscious of this fact due to my friendships on here expressing their feelings towards my actions, I give you my deepest apologies! I know not any excuse is forgivable for my actions and painful words of egotistical rudeness as this has dropped me many levels of consciousness states but now that I am consciously aware, I am working on being who I really am. I cannot apologize enough, I am sorry!
