The Distance Brings Us Closer is an improvisational collection of songs performed by the Philadelphia based group, northern valentine. Forming a multi-dimensional sound that takes many influences--what might accurately be called "distance music"-- it brings to mind a "still life" version of Sigur Rós morphed with the more explicitly
atomospheric cross-currents of Windy and Carl, Eluvium and early Stars of the Lid. What may begin with a familiar haunting, shoegazey wail slowly oxygenates into a thick gauzy bed of metallic white noise, twinkling blips, shimmers, exhalations, and an occasional otherworldly excursion. It is total immersion in a constantly changing sound world that is both familiar and abstract, often simultaneously.
