PUNKTASTIC.COM NO COMPROMISE - BROKEN NOSE The lazy journalist in me would say something like how this Welsh mob sound like Sonic Boom Six on crack. Yeah, I know, I didn't think anyone could out spazz SB6 either, but this Bridgend-based mob easily do it. 'No Compromise' is a brilliant album from start to finish. At times it's just so utterly bonkers it's confusing and a bit too much, but you've got to love the fact this band just don't see the boundaries and instead just chuck so many musical styles together to create a genre-bending album that's blistering in pace and excitement. 'Strike' is just a psychotic ska-based trip through three minutes of mayhem. 'Intro' sounds like Rage Against The Machine if they grew up on ska. 'Woody', which starts off with Woody Woodpecker samples, is an absolute riot. Not one song sounds the same, not one song sounds like any other band. The brass sections sound as forceful as NoComply used to, but other than that any comparisons are just made by lazy people. Like me. If you love how SB6 chuck so much together and sound like themselves, then Broken Nose will be your new favourite band. .. .. STREET VOICE UK MUSIC MAGAZINE .. NO COMPROMISE ALBUM REVIEW - 8.5/10.. "Despite the crap band name these guys are actually very good at what they do and this album is proof of just how good they are! I wasn't too keen on the intro but from the second number you're treated nice tracks that incorporate punk, ska and dub. The nine tracks I've heard on this release are hot and I'm surprised these guys hadn't been signed up by one of the ska-punk labels in this country before Frontline grabbed them! For me tracks like 'Strike', 'That Girl', 'Survival Dub' and 'Don't Fuck With Me' are up there with likes of Sonic Boom Six, The Skints and Dirty Revolution. I don't say that lightly either! Broken Nose really do deliver some decent vocals and music which should appeal to many people. If you've not heard Broken Nose don't be put off by the band name as you'll miss out on one of the most exciting bands the UK has to offer!" .. .. PROPA-JOB PRODUCTIONS... "Wales' finest skacore band are up next.Very much in the same mould as Capdown, these guys take no prisoners with a full on assault of Ska/Punk,with razor sharp lyrics & a no comprimise rawness. They've supported the likes of Adequate 7,Howard's Alias,Sonic Boom Six and Random Hand.".... PUNKTASTIC REVIEW http://www.punktastic.com/reviews/2451.. FIVE-TRACK EP.. "Bridgend's Broken Nose are essentially a skacore band with a variety of influences - mixing poppy melodies with ska and hardcore influences. At times they sound like a more aggressive Adequate Seven, which is definitely a good thing. Mixing up a variety of different musical styles throughout - 'Pro-Active' mixes in hardcore, dub and a Beastie Boyes-esque 'Sabotage' style vocal - keeps this interesting, although at times the band do come across as a bit messy, as the very same song has a wildly overblown stop/start guitar solo at the end which doesn't really make the rest of the song particularly cohesive. The individual sum of each part is brilliant, but put together it doesn't always quite work.I was debating whether to give this 6 or 7 and opted for the latter because Broken Nose don't really sound like anyone else. And that has to ultimately be a good thing.".... VULTURES UNITED.. "anyway, a couple of random bands played before us and The River Card. The band Broken Nose was the only one who stuck out to us. They're from Wales, and are a ska-punk band that were actually really good. Their vocals sounded like the dude from Choking Victim and Leftover Crack. The music had horns and the band was more on the ska tip than punk, and were really tight overall. They were fun to watch.".... A SHORT FANZINE ABOUT ROCKING.. "FIVE-SONG EP".. "Crikey, what's happening to me? I went to a ska-punk gig on Saturday and now I'm listening to a ska-punk CD and not wanting to throw it against the wall! I guess my blanket avoidance of all things ska-related means that I'd forgotten that, past the day-glo end of the ska-punk genre, the more aggressive, punk-sounding bands around aren't that bad. Bridgend's Broken Nose definitely fall into that category, with this EP offering five songs of mixed-up, schizophrenic noise that lurches between dub-reggae, aggro punk rock and the more expected ska-punk breeziness. With the somewhat crazed quick-fire vocal delivery of singer Phil they often sound not-a-million-miles away from fellow South Welsh band Skindred, while the anger and energy of their delivery keeps things moving along at a pleasingly urgent pace and with plenty of bite. I'm almost surprised to find myself typing this, but this is not bad at all.".... DISTORTED MAGAZINE - NO COMPROMISE ALBUM REVIEW 2010.. "This Skacore band based in Bridgend South Wales offers an eclectic mix of punk, ska, dub and “urban” influences with a rap-core hip hop style on some songs. As a results it’s a difficult band and album to categorise which is fine but there are some distinct influences; vocally there are massive comparison to Stza in his Leftover Crack days, with the near whiny- aggro-core pitch of Phil on vocals. But beyond that the fusion of styles akin to Sonic Boom Six, Random Hand and even Intro5pect at times means the collective horns (trumpet and Sax), synths and tendency to move from slowed down dub styling’s (‘Survival Dub’) to piano opening then pumping ‘Don’t Fuck With Me’ and aggro ‘Strike’ indicates a band that is happy to experiment and create its own identity and not sound quite like anyone else. That said I don’t know if I’m a fan of all the songs and the record never really flows in my opinion and the core-urban mix is a one I’ve never been overly excited by; that’s just my feeling. I imagine the band live would be a good spectacle if the energy and pace are replicated but they are very much at the fore of the modern UK skacore sound that has risen in popularity." .... ROCK SOUND (JULY 2010 ISSUE) BY OLI ROBERTSON.. NO COMPROMISE ALBUM REVIEW.. "The first thing that strikes the listener upon sampling a few tracks of South Wales combo Broken Nose's debut debut full-length is the diversity on show. From the furious hardcore-flavoured ska of 'Strike' to the mellow and moog driven 'The Truth', the band seem to have all angles of their genre covered, and covered competently. Vocalist Phil may well sound a little too much like geek-hop "hero" MC Chris on the higher notes and certain tunes veer a little too far into rap territory, yet overall this represents a debut album to be mostly proud of."
