A brief history of nearly everything (to do with us)
We're a not-for-profit DIY shambles. In a good way.
Having made our mark with a series of split EPs – the Four By Four series – comprising eight tracks from seven artists across two bite-size releases (including Smalltown America's electronica hero Alan MX and Projekt A-ko, from the people who previously brought you 90s lo-fi heroes Urusei Yatsura), we recently released Ben Marwood's much-lauded This Is Not What You Had Planned; twenty minutes of lyrically-focused, angsty anti-folk with a twist of dry wit. Along the way we've picked up support from BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, 6Music, XFM and various regional BBC stations, as well as KEXP Seattle and various other international stations, The Times, Room Thirteen and Artrocker, all on a shoestring budget.
It's a pretty simple concept: we put out records because we like them rather than because we think they'll fill our wallets*, we don't make any money out of it, nor do we ask bands for money (unless you offer), or force them to store 500 unsold copies of their own CD under their beds (unless you paid for them, in theory, because then they'd be yours, wouldn't they?); really we just do it for the love, and as long as we have enough money for tea we don't mind**. We don't sign people or claim copyright, and whilst we probably aren't going to make anyone famous, we feel we're a good way for acts we like to get a bit of a head-start.
We currently put out records with the assistance of our friends, Josaka and Velocity Recordings, both of whom (and subsquently we) are distributed by Code7, a division of Plastic Head. Our digital nonsense is achieved through Kudos.
*only two of us own wallets
**only two of us like tea

A brief guide to getting in touch
If you'd like to get our attention, rather than write us a message on this lovely MySpace, we have an open submission policy whereby you send us a track or two of yours and we have a listen at our leisure. That way, rather than trekking to your page and listen to some reduced-quality streaming audio, our lovely gmail account lets us hear everything crystal clear AND we're guaranteed to hear every track. Interested? Try brokentailsubmissions@gmail.com, but keep these things in mind:
*As much as we love music, we're really only interested in stuff with a bit of a twist, whether in sound or lyrical content. Please don't message us if you're the new Oasis.
*Keep in mind we're not big fans of commercial dance, drum n bass, soul/RnB, death metal and jazz. We'll still listen to it though, obviously. We promised, after all.
*Whilst the aim of the game isn't to sell lots of records, we don't have much money to wee away. We'd thus quite like it if you're a hard-working band who like to surprise us by actively gigging in places we've never heard of. But that's just a preference, yeah?
Yeah!
