Brompton’s cocktail is the preparation including cocaine and morphine which is administered to patients with a far gone cancer to alleviate their agony. For the first time it was used at Brompton Hospital from which its name comes.
Brompton’s Cocktail was founded as a duo in the end of 1999 in Saint-Petersburg by Anton Urazov and Oleg R. Anton had been a vocalist of some far-famed bands before. Morlocks which Oleg R. had also taken a part was the most well-known of them. By the time of the beginnings of BC Oleg R. was a member of the group Krovj s molokom (with Ilya Kozyrev aka Porch Nap) and also a co-founder of the creative association Fulldozer, with Alexandr Starostin (Theodor Bastard) and Ilya Kozyrev, which released BC’s first album Voodoo Madrasah later. Stylistically, it expressed some post industrial tendencies being sufficiently various at the same time; now the musicians consider it to be a kind of “test of the pen”, an essay, inevitable as well as first, of team-work. During next years the duo created the new stuff which was recorded in 2003 as the album Meditation of Protest which was going to be released by Fulldozer, but it didn’t took place because of the label’s crisis. This work’s essence is defined by the musicians as psychedelic polystylistics, and its style had absorbed extremely various elements: from intelligent electronica to techno dub, glitch and even new wave of industrial. Since the end of 2005 Brompton’s Cocktail is the solo project of Oleg R. Now Anton is concentrated on his project Id Molotov. The project has two other albums recorded: actiVirus (2005 stuff) and No Cappella (2006 stuff, see here). The group’s performances at Landschaft-2 and 2nd BulldozerFest, on the same stage with DAT Politics, Bad Sector, Troum, etc., and also at SKIF-8 may be noted among the concerts given by the duo. The project participated in a number of compilations.

Briefly about the history of my creative work
My first band was Krovj s molokom (since 1998) – one of the pioneers of industrial electronics in Russia. Two first stages of my work in music are concerned with this project.
I was young…. At first we were making a kind of rhythmic industrial in the manner of Ant-Zen but more polystylistic and completely based on sampling and looping. This stuff was realized in 2000 as the album Entropy 2000, or Thrice-repeated Silence of People by Pipes.
Afterward, Ilya and I were making a kind of music also based on sampling but absolutely different, maybe with elements of down-tempo and clicks’n’cuts – as a matter of fact I cannot draw any parallels, well, simply I don’t know….
In the course of time the project ceased to show sign of life.
Brompton’s Cocktail started in the end of 1999.
First it was a sort of dirty industrial. The album Voodoo Madrasah (1999) is based on this stuff.
I was still young…. Then the Meditation of Protest stage came. Until now I think it is the most original BC work, but only stylistically – from the point of view of composition I outgrew it.
The third BC creative work stage is in the “techno” sphere. The sound was somewhat autechric but no clone. Gradually Anton began to do less and less for the project…. In the end of 2005 he left the band.

We love both these tracks, and this mutual respect of the opposite points of view expresses the wisdom of our label to hold on the golden middle in music...

Our new album "Herbarium" is
out now on CdBaby (MP3 so far, physical CD is on its way).
Diverse palette of styles (post-rock,
ambient, electronica, trip-hop, with elements of noise, dub,
neoclassic and free improvisation), united by cinematic, slightly
pensive mood.
«Herbarium» is called so
because of heterogeneity of «songs», which can be
compared to miscellaneous leaves in the album, still being belonged
to the family of trees. Trying to avoid non-alive metaphors here,
only thought of diversity and warm and innermost feeling that
herbarium is capable to conjure up. «... This leaf I picked up
in the park where I met her, and this - I sat by the river,
contemplating...». So tracks were created – one was captured
in some magic jam, another – recorded layer by layer and
meticulously mixed then, next – cut from previous sessions and so
on.
All compositions are united by Poostosh
sense of music – mostly pensive, spatial, tender and experimental.
There's a lot of soul and charisma in every leaf... So please let
your soul look over our HERBARIUM.
