The name ‘Proletariat Bronze’ finds its roots in a Micheal Cirelli poem which references’ Michelle Kwan’s third place finish at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney Australia in which he extols the virtue of a bronze finish and states that it is a “proletariat color”. To this day Proletariat Bronze refers, not just to the working class nature of their content, but also to excelling in the face of the day-to-day struggle of simply making it to tomorrow. The group now known as Proletariat Bronze was conceived during the summer of 2002 when Rupert Estanislao, Jason Bayani, and Mesej1 were competing against each other for different slam teams as part of the ‘Battle of the Bay’ series which took place all over he Bay Area. Today, Proletariat Bronze consists of three Filipino-American poets, Jason Bayani, Jaylee Alde, and Mesej1.Together, they have rocked sold out audiences from Manhattan to Los Angeles, and everywhere in between. As individuals, each member of Proletariat Bronze has been a grand slam champion in the Bay Area. Jason Bayani was the Grand Slam Champion of Berkeley and San Francisco in 2003. Jaylee Alde was the Grand Slam Champion of Berkeley in 2005. Mesej1 was the Grand Slam Champion of Oakland in 2006. Jaylee has also placed second as an individual in the 2004 national slam in St. Louis where he and Mesej performed on the finals stage members of team Berkeley. Jason Bayani is in the process of completing his MFA at St Mary’s College and Mesej 1 holds a MA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State. Proletariat Bronze is still writing, workshopping, performing, paying bills, and existing in this ever-brutal global economy. They have guest lectured at universities, and traveled through time. They have manned missions to Jupiter and drank water from the fountain of youth with the holy grail. They are cold filtered and beach wood aged for a premium taste. They have loved, they have lived, they have transcended, they have endured, they keep coming back for more.

Come out the show! Combining movement, video, text, live music & guerrilla theatre, PARADOX presents a journey into the collective unconscious. An original work of metaphysical musings that explores the power of performance to heal the spirit. PARADOX is both story and non-story, theatre and non-theatre, teaching and non-teaching, being and non-being. It is the space beyond the logical or rational where opposites coexist and simultaneous truths converge. All is (n)One.
JayLee...You were indescribably mind blowing at Tourettes last week.....producing the wetness of laughter in all the babes and the greeness of envy in the dudes who wished they could pull off your nonchalant seduction......that night you were the Mrongo Meka! (That's Swahili if you want a translation...holla!) I would have thrown you my granny pannies but didn't want to knock ya funny azz down with their sheer volume of yardage! hahahahah
