You may remember me as that crazy pageant girl on American Idol…but I hope you will soon get to know me for me :) I am a very down to earth person with big dreams. I am friends with just about everyone I meet because I feel like you can learn things about the world and about yourself through others. I was born into a musical family- my dad plays the drums in a country band and just about every person in my family has some kind of musical ability. I’ve been singing since I can remember and know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the music industry is where I belong. I know it’s a hard business, but I’m ready for it. I’m tough :)
Last year (season 7), I tried out for American Idol- something I had dreamed of doing since the show came out when I was 14. What most people don’t realize, is there are about 4 rounds before you get to Randy, Paula, and Simon. I had won the Miss South Florida Fair Pageant in January of that year, and decided to wear my crown and banner in order to have a story to get to the judges. After waiting about 12 hours to get into the audition room, you can imagine the anticipation, excitement, and nervousness that was running through me. When the judges told me I made it to Hollywood, I was SO excited (if you couldn’t tell by the video :)). I then went from the title of Miss South Florida Fair to a new title that I got from Simon: “The most annoying person I’ve [Simon’s] ever met”! Well, I must admit I was a bit over the top, but you have to understand what that moment was for me: it would be like an up-and-coming actress getting a role in a Steven Spielberg movie. That moment was me looking at my dreams straight in the eye and realizing what a huge opportunity I had. It ended up not working out the way I had hoped and left me looking like a “snob” or “bratty pageant girl” in some peoples’ eyes. Let me just say that I am not either of those things by a long shot. I may be a goofball- but definitely not a snob! As far as pageants go, I have done 3, and I saw them as an opportunity to better myself and further my education. I competed in the Miss American System which granted $45 million in scholarships to young women across America last year. It is a very prestigious pageant system and I have never met more ambitious and genuine women in my life, so I will never be embarrassed to say that I competed in a preliminary to Miss America!
What I learned from my experience with American Idol, is that people can be quick to judge, but I hope that through my myspace (thanks Tom!) and youtube, you will be able to see the real Brooke :)
I have worked to achieve my dream of music since I was 4, opening for 98 Degrees, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, and Sara Evans. In 2007, I won a competition at my college, the University of Florida (Go Gators!), and got to perform in front of about 60,000 people at our homecoming pep rally- Gator Growl which was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! Recently, I have been writing songs and teaching myself to play the guitar, so be looking for some new originals :) Basically, my goal is to graduate from UF in the spring of 2010 (a year early, eek!) and move to Nashville or LA to really pursue this dream of mine and make it into a reality. I will be ever thankful for my Mom and Dad and all of my family and friends who have supported me thus far and who will continue to be there on this journey with me. I really could not do anything without your love, support, and loyalty. God has blessed me and through Him I know that we can make this happen together!
