“Surely all art is the result of one's having been in danger, of having gone through an experience all the way to the end, where no one can go any further.” ~Rilke~

La Music Awards RECORD OF THE YEAR WINNER, WeHo Awards nominee and Music Connection Magazine's TOP 100 Unsigned Act

BROOKE WILKES

was born right about 8pm show time in Anchorage Alaska. This 3rd Generation Danish Alaskan found accolades quite early on in her career: an Alaskan pageant win, radio airplay, newspaper raves and sold out night club performances opening for various celebrities all before the age of 13.

But Brooke wanted more.

Brooke moved to California and put her very first rock bands together while molding her inner actress, portraying leading roles in productions ranging from The Wiz to Evita. The theatre boards along with LA’s top nightclubs helped to cultivate Brooke’s powerful stage personas while she donated performances to TV shows like Star Search. She began gathering various radio jingle and feature film soundtrack credits while filling requests to sing The National Anthem at sold out arena's for the LA Lakers and the Might Ducks.

But Brooke just wasn’t done yet.

So began the touring with various rock bands, training her voice to sing up to 50 songs an evening, sometimes 7 nights a week, preparing her chops for what lay ahead. During these training years, she worked with celebrities including the Beach Boys, Ben E. King, Jewel, the Pointer Sisters, Richard Carpenter, Greg Walker, Matthew Lillard, Wayne Brady, Vanessa L. Williams, Kristine W. and Doc Severinson.

Eventually those moments came where too good to be true wheelers and dealers offered up their self proclaimed and very prestigious fortune-telling casting couches.

“I knew I’d rather die trying for this dream on my own terms than sacrifice my morals and ethics", Brooke said. "It was never ever an option for me to sell my soul."

So, Brooke vowed to take her livelihood into her own hands and started her own entertainment company, booking herself and her talented friends everywhere from Alaska to Hawaii, from Caesars Palace to Disneyland. This newfound role gave Brooke valuable knowledge about the business side of music and instilled a deep respect and understanding for entertainment industry professionals everywhere.

But Brooke still had more to say- and do- and be.

She dusted off her songwriting notebook and began gracing the LA club circuit again. Her first CD, “Never Too Late”, was named one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year by Music Connection Magazine. Brooke began stepping "outside the box," taking on new experiences and writing about them.

In the words of successful actor and old friend Matthew Lillard, "Brooke’s second CD, 'The Vanilla Life,' is anything but!"

Much like Alice in Wonderland falling down the rabbit hole, Brooke embarked on an unexpected journey that would later be jokingly referred to as her "Fruitcake Year." Her literal and lyrically daring album,"The Vanilla Life", won Record of the Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards. The album also received the Founders Award for Brooke’s creative tongue in cheek art concept: A wholesome 1950s Sandra Dee unabashedly celebrating her own unexpected non-vanilla adventures. This award winning Cd's themes are inspiring a future act based on Brooke's memoirs as well as fueling material for her upcoming project, "The Mermaid Diaries."

In the meantime, Brooke continues to try on new and exciting endeavors, whether it's rehearsing for her upcoming "Vanilla Life- WeHo style” appearances, taking on stand up comedy, filming videos or being featured in various Cabaret and Indie Artist showcases.

As one of Brooke's fans recently said, “Brooke is my favorite super hero. She is part light, part dark. One half mothering angel, the other half naughty devil."

And guess what?

Brooke's not done yet.
