Brooks Strause was born in Muscatine, Iowa, in the United States of America, on the twenty-third day of January, in 1981.
For some reason, he was able to fly for a small period of time in his early childhood. Around this time, he frequently heard a voice explaining things to him. It was a slow, deep, droning voice, seeming to come from both within and without. He wrote about these strange occurences in his song, Can't Remember.
At age 14, he began to write and record songs using a guitar and his voice. This is a practice he has continued to this day.
He plays a variety of musical instruments (none well) and tends to do his own arrangements.
Brooks is an avid creature enthusiast. He enjoys the company of non-human animals, living or otherwise. Domestic cats are a favorite, and have inspired several of his songs.
His first record, The Misanthrope and his Doubtful Faith, came out in 2007. His next record, Dead Animals, will be out in 2009, after many delays resultant of incapacitating sloth. He also plans to do some travelling this year, playing his songs in the world.
