Born in Peoria Illinois, Roderick Lee Armstrong began his pursuit of music poetry when he was 14 years old. Bro. Roderick was a very outspoken child, full of creativity and vigor, and needed a way to express his feelings toward the difficult situations he faced as a young boy. Bro. Roderick, his mother, two sisters and younger brother lost their home to a fire when he was just twelve years of age. Enduring the hardships of finding a new home, and being supportive of his other siblings, Bro. Roderick found a way to express his soul to a world that had been through the same troubles. He was led into spoken word poetry through hip hop music. Working with record labels and various artists from the age of seventeen to the age of twenty five, he gained the knowledge and the know-how to branch off on his own endeavors.
In 2008, Contender for the Faith Church in St. Paul was the first place where many heard the poetry that he had composed. He began advertising his new music ministry (Confessions, Words of Encouragement) through the internet; He was then contacted by Big Time Entertainment (BTE) via the internet about performing at the Dinky Towner Café.. located in Minneapolis where various artists performed music or other artistic talents. On June 29th, he performed his first paid headlining show at the Dinky Towner Café... Doing poems such as “We Ain’t Goin” and “Pride vs. God” BTE asked him to return with more poetry and music.
Not long afterward, he met a singer by the name of Janelle(Egypt)Jackson who had a unique way of singing and writing songs as well. Bro. Roderick had composed a song that he wanted her to audition, and after a well done rendition of the song he wrote, he added her on to his music ministry. Performing the song he’d written (“Praise Him”) and another original song she had written (“Hear Me”), she joined him at the second paid performance at the Dinky Towner Café.. as his background singer for his poetry and music.
He then proceeded to advertise the new singer on the internet, along with the ministry he began in the summer. As more new songs emerged from the artists, the more people were inspired. The music even helped some to make the decision to change their lives for the better, the very reason and purpose of the music composed. BTE requested more shows from the artists and they were booked for more showcases at Bro. Roderick’s home church.
Bro. Roderick is a very head-strong individual, and will not stop at nothing to make sure the vision he was given has come to pass...
