About me: The Brother 2 Brother Literary Symposium original founders were Brian Edgeston, Vincent Alexandria, and Timm McCann. The symposium is in it's sixth year under the direction of it's founder and chairman, Vincent Alexandria.
With many public school children scoring below grade level on standardized English Language Arts tests, it is clear that young people are simply not being endowed with a very fundamental life skill: the ability to read. Adults with poor reading skills are not employable, having difficulty competing for even low-paying labor jobs, particularly in today’s harsh economy.
For four years, a coalition of authors have been working to address this problem by promoting literacy and a love for reading, particularly among young African American males. This is done primarily through the annual event, the Brother 2 Brother Literary Symposium.
Held previously in Atlanta (2002), Kansas City (2003), and Harlem, New York (2005), Dallas, TX (2206), and Newark, NJ (2007), the event consists of a weekend of panel discussions, workshops, and most importantly, books, all free to the community. The organization has also been instrumental in the establishment of book clubs for young black men nationwide, with a long term goal to establish 100 community book clubs, as well as recently establishing a Directory of writers as a resource for schools and youth organizations interested in hosting writers to hold book discussions.
Women and Men nationally published authors have dedicated thier time, effort, and energy to making this event a success and give back to thier communites, raising awareness of illiteracy, education and reading. Our goal is to turn around the over 50% male and 37% female drop out rate.
The symposium will be held in Houston, Texas, October 3-4, 2008 for the Fifth Event at the Power Center, 12401 S. Post Oak Rd., 77045. We have the support of the Mayor's office, the HISD School District, 97.9 the Beat and the Madd Hatta and Nnette, along with the Houston Libraries, Kensington Publishing, Harlequin/Kimani Press Publishing, Black Expressions Book Club, and many more to be anounced!

Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month - May 15, 2008 through June 15, 2008
As you may or may not know, Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a genetic, neurobiological disorder, characterized by involuntary movements and sounds that are known as "tics." Tics are quite common in childhood, but in moderate or severe cases tics can cause functional impairment, social impairment, and pain. In addition to tics themselves, the usual person with TS has other difficulties because of accompanying and associated disorders. The two most common are attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Why is Tourette Syndrome Important To Me:
Me & My Tourette's: Motivated By GOD http://www. myleswalker. com
I am an African American Man who has Tourette Syndrome and has had it for 18+ years. I currently lives in Knoxville, Tennessee (in the projects), but I am originally from Connecticut.
I am trying to increase people's awareness in the African American Community, as well as other minority and non-minorities who do not know about Tourette Syndrome.
I have written a book, and it is published by iuniverse. com and the title of the book is "Me & My Tourette's: Motivated By GOD.
"Me & My Tourette's: Motivated By GOD" is also available at Barnes and Noble, Books A Million, Amazon. com, and at over 25,000 book retailers online and offline!
If "Me & My Tourette's: Motivated By GOD" is not available at your favorite bookstore, then you can ask the store manager or store clerk to order it, and they will. You can also order your copy at my website which is http://www. myleswalker. com
