Energetic, inspiring and effective are just some of the words audiences have used to describe the writings and messages delivered by writer, news reporter, artist, publicist and photojournalist Jesse Muhammad. The theme of his motivational talks is "Mediocrity is Not in Your D.N.A", to show that no individual was born to do anything mediocre but instead has the power to be extraordinary in everything that they do.
Brother Jesse is a native of Houston, Texas and a graduated of Forest Brook Senior High School, where he was a star student-athlete and represented the United States on a high school all-star basketball team to Germany. Upon graduation in 1997, he became a registered member of the Nation of Islam under the leadership of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. He then attended Prairie View A&M University to major in electrical engineering. While on campus, he would become a “dorm-room” name for starting initiatives such as leadership summits, economic empowerment clubs, major protests, Black history societies, book clubs, political forums, the Nation of Islam Student Association and much more that would leave his mark on the city of Prairie View. It was also during that time that he would publish his very first article in the Panther Newspaper entitled Will the real leaders please stand?, which challenged the student governments stance on university policies.
Brother Jesse started contributing to the Final Call Newspaper in 2004 and was appointed as its Southwest Regional Correspondent. In 2005, after receiving rave reviews for his reporting on stories that mainstream media tends to over look, he was appointed as an official Staff Writer for the FCN, which is the only national Black-owned newspaper. Since that time, he has gained worldwide recognition for his consistent coverage of Hurricane Katrina and the continuing struggle of its survivors. In 2007, he was credited with bringing national and international attention to the case of the “Jena Six”, and helped to mobilize the 50,000 plus attendees to the historic “Jena Six” rally in September of that year. He has been a featured commentator on various television and radio shows in Houston, New York, Chicago, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Louisiana, and as far as Ghana. His writings are now read in many print and online newspapers and magazines throughout the world.
In 2007, he became the co-founder and editor of For Youth Teens and Young Adults (FYTYA.com), which is a Houston based newspaper that highlights the accomplishments of high school and college students. As a member of the NOI, he has served in the youth and information departments. He is also the representative of the Ministry of Information for the Houston Millions More Movement Local Organizing Committee.
When Brother Jesse is not writing and reporting stories, is operates his firm called Jahaanah Productions, which provides services such motivational speaking, graphic designing, company branding consultation, public relations, media and news exposure, event coordination, youth programs and more. WHAT ABOUT BROTHER JESSE'S REPORTING?
Here is what Roland S. Martin of Chicago's WVON said in CNN on Sept. 23, 2006 in regards to the Jena Six Story: "Well, it was vital. First and foremost, the first story done was on the "Final Call" newspaper. Jesse Muhammad was the lead writer. Then as that story began to go out to the various black newspapers across the country, then black radio picked it up. So you had Michael Baisden. And when Michael began to talk about it, then you had Steve Harvey, Tom Joyner, Rickey Smiley. You had the Reverend Al Sharpton with his radio show on syndication one. You had Joe Madison on XM satellite WOL in D.C."
