Sojourners Magazine rocks!
Heroes
Yeshua of Nazareth; John Wesley; Mahatma Gandhi; Franz Jaegerstaetter; Deitrich Bonhoeffer; Eleanor Roosevelt; Edward R. Murrow; Martin Luther King Jr.; Oscar Romero; Dorothy Day; Helen Keller; Hubert Humphrey; Paul Wellstone; Jim Wallis; the person who played his cello in the middle of the street during a sniper attack in Bosnia; Marcel Marceau; Jacques Cousteau; Ehren Watada; Jean-Dominique Bauby, and most recently, Muntadar al-Zeidi! Also, include the unknown heroes: single parents; corporate & governmental whistle-blowers who risk their careers to warn about egregious wrong-doing; and all persons who could strike out with violence but who choose another path in the heat of the moment.
You are the Fool card. The Fool fearlessly begins the journey into the unknown. To do this, he does not regard the world he knows as firm and fixed. He has a seemingly reckless disregard for obstacles. In the Ryder-Waite deck, he is seen stepping off a cliff with his gaze on the sky, and a rainbow is there to catch him. In order to explore and expand, one must disregard convention and conformity. Those in the throes of convention look at the unconventional, non-conformist personality and think What a fool. They lack the point of view to understand The Fool's actions. But The Fool has roots in tradition as one who is closest to the spirit world. In many tribal cultures, those born with strange and unusual character traits were held in awe. Shamans were people who could see visions and go on journeys that we now label hallucinations and schizophrenia. Those with physical differences had experience and knowledge that the average person could not understand. The Fool is God. The number of the card is zero, which when drawn is a perfect circle. This circle represents both emptiness and infinity. The Fool is not shackled by mountains and valleys or by his physical body. He does not accept the appearance of cliff and air as being distinct or real. Image from: Mary DeLave http://www.marydelave.com/ Take this quiz!

Who I'd like to meet: Freaks, fools, dreamers, visionaries, spiritual sojourners, travellers, music makers, music lovers, dancers, artists, hikers, runners, campers, writers (I like to read), yogis (I like to be stretched), cooks (I like to eat), mystics, idealists, optimists, activists, wounded healers, butterflies who've had their wings pulled off (metaphorically speaking), people who've stepped in it, people who've eaten generous helpings of humble pie, people who've frozen their tounges to fences or flag poles, people who snort or pee their pants or when they laugh (but not if they do those things when they aren't laughing), people who can see things from more than one point of view, people who have integrity to their convictions even if they can see things from more than one point of view, people who hold their convictions loosely enough to consider changing them if and when that's needed...
Things I like in people: not taking life too seriously; the ability to laugh at oneself; enjoying making, dancing to, or appreciating good music; taking care of one's body; growing spirituality; self-awareness and reflectiveness; creativity; resiliancy, wit, wisdom, folly; a vulnerability that nudges me to being vulnerable; holding one's own in conversations; and giving a damn about the world and seeking to make a positive difference in it. I seek out people who build others up, but reality checks and honest (lovingly shared) constructive criticism are welcome.
