Brothers Bud first came to the attention of Finger Lickin' in the summer of 2002 when Dom turned up at Vinyl Addiction with the first 10 copies of the soon-to-be Finger Lickin' monster, 'Herbgrinder'. Including a blinding re-rub from in-house legends the Drumattic Twins, the release was a massive international success leading to compilation licences and radio support in every corner of the globe. It also made the number 1 spot in the Breaks chart in DJ Mag - not bad for a debut release! Having found a home in the boxes of the Plump DJs, Dreadzone, Rennie Pilgrem, Kid Kenobi and Ali B, to name but a few, it simply had to join the Lickers catalogue.
Following a pair of lauded one-off white labels, The Alarm and Pump Box, which gained a wealth of underground support, Brothers Bud are soon return to the Finger Lickin fold with a tasty double header of club bullets in form of 'Crazy Jack' (release date 18th September 2006) and the infectious 'Don't Stop' (AA).
Brothers Bud are Dom Farrington and Ollie Gregson. Contrary to popular myth, the 'Brothers' are not actually related and with Dom's music history ranging from funk through hip-hop and with a healthy dose of late-eighties rave culture and Ollie's more 'traditional' musical upbringing, (Grade 8 drummer with distinction, don't you know?) they certainly must have had a lot to talk about when they first hooked up! The pair met when Ollie gave a mutual friend from an infamous midlands record shop a CD to pass on to renowned scene stalwart Dom. Within hours of listening to the CD Dom had called Ollie and the pseudo-siblings have been inseparable ever since.Their differences in approach come together to form something great - chunky beats, screeching leads and bottomless subs - not to mention the second to none production skills - which have become a Brothers Bud trademark.
Dom also has a nice little sideline in the more commercial side of dance music with his heavy involvement with Ministry of Sound who are currently licencing a number of his productions. See if you can spot the tunes!
Ollie's musical background is the stuff of genuine awe. A drummer from age 7 (patient parents!), guitar at 9 and bass guitar from the age of 13 he has put in the hours to achieve his expert status. He has been in bands from a young age and loves composing and songwriting. After achieving high grades in all three disciplines he moved onto a Music Technology and Production course lasting 3 years and is currently looking to continue his education at uni studying Acoustics and Studio Design.
With three decades of DJing experience between them, these guys are no strangers to spinning a few tunes. Brothers Bud launched the first night for White Rhino in Brighton and still hold a 11 year residency at Atomic Jam. They have appeared on Metalheadz tours, the Rizla tour with Bugged Out, the Finger Lickin 5th Birthday Party, Eargasm's 2nd Birthday at Fabric and they have a regular bi-monthly residency at The Custard Factory in Birmingham.
Dom headlined the Gatecrasher Black and White Ball whilst working as SolarStone DJs, and at 14 he had a show on Midlands' pirate radio station Freedom FM, (including jingles!), and also ran pirate station, Bass Station 105.9FM, launching him into the early rave era with residencies at Pandemonium, Fantasia and Quest.
Ladies and gentlemen it is with great pleasure we bring you the dope beats of the Midlands finest - we give you The Brothers Bud.
