Brothers Grim is a young emerging duo in the Edmonton Hip Hop scene consisting of brothers Komrade & PG hailing out of the north side neighbourhood of the low income, working class Beverly.
Growing up with love for Hip Hop music and supporting the local scene, Brothers Grim style reflects the thoughts and observations of the world around them. From conceptual creations to party anthems to social commentary Brothers Grim does it all. With strong dedication and respect for their craft, Brothers Grim is working hard to be recognized as an emerging leader in the local scene.
Forming in the early months of 2008, Brothers Grim began working on their first project entitled ‘Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover.’ Performing at many local shows along the way, ‘Dont Judge A Book By Its Cover’ was released at the end of August 2008. A quality product in conjunction with a low price allowed Brothers Grim to distribute their album across the local scene.
Not one to slow down, Brothers Grim filmed a music video for their first single ‘City is Dying’. The track which speaks on the social conditions in the city was received with rave reviews from both the hip hop scene and local community. The HD video showcased Brothers Grim dedication and commitment to their craft.
Regular appearances at local shows and monthly performances of their own soon made Brothers Grim a buzzing name in Edmonton. With the success of ‘City is Dying’ Brothers Grim soon found themselves performing at many events for social awareness including the teen HALO initiative on Alberta Avenue, the Heart of the City Music Festival and the ‘Walk for Sudan’ at Bonnyville Composite High School.
Brothers Grim had the ear of the city. They furthered their career with regular rotation on the Plex Show, a national hip hop radio program on AVR and were also heard on numerous occasions on CFWE-FM for the 5th Element Show.
By January of 09 Brothers Grim had founded Grim Empire. A collection of local artists Brothers Grim had previously worked with, Grim Empire is part record label and part artist development. Grim Empire has released projects from artists K-Blitz, Stripes and NineLivez with more projects on the way. Grim Empire also promoted both All Ages and Licensed shows for a variety of crowds. In addition to Grim Empire, Brothers Grim also founded Grim Wear, a t-shirt line which is inspired by Brothers Grim tracks.
On April 20, 2009 Brothers Grim released Grim Reefer – a full length professionally pressed album dealing with the Cannabis legalization and culture. With political looks at the history of Cannabis, feel good party tracks and raw underground music Grim Reefer is a cross-section of hip-hop sounds. Grim Reefer quickly solidified Brothers Grim in the Cannabis Legalization movement in the city performing at many rallies and 420 parties. The album features local emcees Proveli Paragon, Oozeela, Toxik Soul, Kryple & NineLivez.
Throughout their short rise Brothers Grim has performed at dozens of local shows, most notably Hip Hop in the Park (2008 & 2009), Hip Hop on the Avenue, and opening slots for Canada’s own Snak the Ripper and Belly.
Their hard work and refusal to stop progressing in the scene in a short amount of time has won the respect of their peers and pushed them as a force to be reckoned with in the local scene.
