| About Brothers McCann |
Two brothers, a keyboard, a guitar, some honest songwriting, and two deep,
soulful voices; this is the foundation of Brothers McCann...
To say the McCann brothers come from a musical family would be an understatement. Growing up in Franklin, MA, all five siblings were involved in musical performance of some kind, and the two youngest brothers, Mike and Pat, were no exception. Both acted in musicals from a young age, which helped to cultivate their stage presence and musical appreciations. Eventually, they each sought more creative independence than musical theater could provide. It was out of this frustration that Mike picked up the guitar and began writing his own songs. A few years later Pat followed in his older brother’s footsteps, teaching himself to play the keyboard, which brought out his innate musical talent.
While honing their skills and showing considerable songwriting ability, both Mike and Pat joined the band Oak Street (with guitarist Dave Brunyak, now of Humblebee) in 2004. It was here that they developed as musicians and live performers. When the members of Oak Street eventually went their separate ways, so did the brothers, each focused on honing their individual style.
In September of 2007 they joined musical forces again to form Brothers McCann.
Their sound is vibrant and
emotional; a fusion of honest, contemplative lyrics and a loose mix of
pop/folk/soul influences set to harmonizing vocals. Their music ranges from
measured, stirring ballads to optimistic and explosively energetic jam-band
inspired tunes.
Drummer Eran Shaysh and bassist Dan Bissex, recent additions to the band, have been able to maintain the sound’s originality while bringing it to a new level. They jibed with the brother’s almost immediately and the foursome quickly began playing as a tight, cohesive unit. After only a few weeks of practice the full band debuted to a packed crowd of newly loyal fans. The energy and enthusiasm of their live shows is undeniably contagious and will no doubt be the momentum that drives Brothers McCann’s success
Brothers McCann is looking forward to progressing both musically and professionally. They plan on recording together within the next few months and seeing where this musical journey will take them.
