From the time of their conception, it was well apparent that The Brown Sisters were born to sing songs that would inspire, touch, and bless the hearts of the listener. JoAnna, Leah, Rachel, and Dorcas are four of six children born to Pastor Thomas and Charlene Brown. Their mother was a very active singer and musician throughout her lifetime in church and their father had a strong singing voice as well. Their father was an avid listener of gospel artists such as the late James Cleveland & Mahalia Jackson, the Richard Smallwood Singers, Commissioned, Andre Crouch, Walter Hawkins, and many more. It is no surprise that the Brown Sisters were singing before they could speak clear sentences. What they discovered very early in life, by singing at home and in church, were that they could make beautiful music together. JoAnna sang tenor, Leah sang soprano and Dorcas sang alto. When Rachel was old enough to sing with the group, she would sing Soprano as well. Through various well-known gospel artists and their parents influence, the sisters' God-given gifts were shaped and developed.
The Brown Sisters learned to appreciate other great music such as classical at a young age from one of their music mentors, Mrs. Edwina Wills. This Methodist Pastor's wife, cellist and school teacher gave them violin and piano lessons free of charge. She also took them to classical music concerts and would inform them of musical performances on the Public Broadcast Station.
In May of 2005, Charlene Brown (also known as “Merry Sunshine”) was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. She lost her battle 3 months later on August 4, 2005. Their mother was happy to see one of her dreams come true before she passed away at the release of The Brown Sisters first cd in 2004 called “Tis So Sweet.” On that recording was one of her favorite songs, 'Wind Beneath My Wings.' Their mom was their greatest fan and instilled many important virtues and principles that have made them who they are today.
The most important thing their parents taught them was to keep God first in their lives; only then would they find true success. Part of that lesson has been lived out through their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and their commitment and loving devotion to their spouses and children. JoAnna currently resides in Atlanta with her husband, Cornelius and 3 children. She is presently the worship leader at her church, writes, arranges and teaches music and is working on her MAT degree. Leah lives in Portland with her husband Les and 3 kids; one of which was born in January of 2008. Dorcas also takes residence in Portland, OR with her husband Jerome and 5 children. She is the music specialist as City Christian Schools, writes music, and arranges music. Rachel also live is Portland near her sister Leah with her husband Vicente and son Vicente II.
Amongst their busy schedules working full-time, being married with children, The Brown Sisters still find time to sing. They opened up for Dr. Maya Angelou at several of her “Unique Lives & Experiences" tour events. They have performed with Saxophonist/Vocalist Patrick Lamb, singer Julianne Johnson-Weiss, Producer/Guitarist Tim Ellis, violinist Aaron Meyer and other well-known Portland artist. They have performed at various conferences, churches, school assemblies, and special events around the Pacific Northwest and even across the miles they are able to keep their musical melodies alive!
You beautiful ladies have an amazing and beautiful sound! Keep the angels singing through your voices for Him! God Bless You Sisters! With His Love, Layna

Love you guys!!!
Hello my precious, talented nieces. Do you have another album out I do not know about?? "Mary Don't You Know" is one of my favorite, and I was looking and listening to all kinds of artists who sing it during the holidays...didn't know you recorded it. I know now, so...how can I get it? Love you mucho, Auntie J
Hello!!! You guys are and always will be my favorite singers. It is so beautiful to see you have a page that has your songs on there. Funny how I was talking about our Music Ministry about you. Pam is in charge of all the music that comes to our church. We have different artist come and go, Kurt Carr now attends our church and Nakitta Clegg-Foxx attends our church and she was picked up by Kurt Carr and sings with the Kurt Carr singers along with Vonnie Lopez, remember Vonnie, its such small world. I think it would be great to have you guys expand your area, like Houston, TX place of known Gospel singers Yolanda Adams does our gospel morning show, with gospel comedian Marcus Wiley, its funny, again Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers, James Fortune and Fiya, Mica Stampley (he used to be in charge of our praise and worship), G. Mayes (ft Nakitta Clegg-Foxx) both go to our church, Fred Hammond sings at our church alot, and I tried to add your song to my page so I can have it as my default song, but wouldnt let me. The name of my church "Fountain of Praise" (try the website fountainofpraise. org), pastor Remus and first lady Mia Wright. I miss you guys so much, dont want you to forget about me when you blow up, I pray our friendship is great and i still talk about you guys as if you were family. Miss it in Oregon, thought about leaving, my church is the only thing that has me here. A great part of being close is trying to help where I can as far as getting you our there on this end, there is a large side that have not experienced the Harmony the Lord has blessed you guys with, maybe me being here is a reason, they say things are done for a reason, I know Pam does do some producing and shopping someone she feels has potential, and you guys are beyond potential. I still have the CD, but your page is even better, So I think I am gonna call her tomorrow or see her at church on Sunday and let her listen to see what she says. Love you all!!!
