  • I am excited to announce that I have a new website

Sorry guys I've been crazily busy lately and didn't even get time to announce this officially on myspace, plus I was waiting to see if my boss at Full Metal Rock is OK with it. Alright so for those who didn't know, here it is!

I have launched a metal webzine of my own, and its called Metal Assault. The address is simply www.metalassault.com. Do check it out, lots of cool stuff on there already!

I will be updating this blog as much as I can with new links, but you can also follow these Metal Assault accounts:

    Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/metalassaultla

    Twitter: http://www.myspace.com/metalassaultLA

    Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Metal-Assault/306084797760?ref=ts

P.S. There are some alignment issues with some browsers, meaning, the different parts of the website aren't displaying the way they should, on Internet Explorer and Firefox. I am working on fixing that. For now this site displays perfectly in Mac OS versions of Firefox, Safari and Chrome and on Windows PC version of Chrome.

  • This has been upsetting me quite a bit ...

    Hello all,

For those who know me, you people must be having an idea of how much I love to talk about the metal scene in my country India. I do get to meet a lot of bands and always try to let them know that they do have a lot of fans back there and they should consider playing in India soon. I never fail to mention it. Never. In fact on two occasions when I met Metallica in San Diego and Megadeth in Las Vegas, I even gifted them hand made Indian flags with the band's logo on it, flags that I made myself, as a token of appreciation on behalf of all my dear friends in the Indian metal community, and as a reminder to go and visit our country.

So its more than obvious that me and the Indian friends whom I told about these conversations I had with the bands, were hoping that we would get a huge metal band this year, may be a band who've never played in India before. I consider myself lucky enough to be living in a city like Los Angeles where I can go to 20 shows a month if I want, and on quite a few occasions, I have to pick between two shows that are taking place on the same night. The people in India are far less fortunate. They wait an entire year to see a major metal band, save for a couple of shows by relatively smaller bands like Amon Amarth, Eluveitie and Hammerfall in college festivals. I feel bad for them, I really do.

For a little background information to you all, Iron Maiden headlined India's first ever metal show in 2007 in Bangalore, followed by Megadeth and Machine Head in 2008. This was also the year when Maiden played in Mumbai. They came back again to headline India's only annual rock/metal festival 'Rock In India' in 2009 in Bangalore. It was a successful show and the band have said plenty of times that they love playing in front of Indian crowds, having done so for three years in a row. A few months after this gig, people in India started getting emails from the organizers 'DNA Networks' saying that they are conducting a poll to decide who headlines Rock In India 2010. Some of the options, I was told, were Judas Priest, Slayer and Lamb of God. People were happy. No one in India has ever seen either of those bands.

A few days back, we were all shocked with utter disbelief when we found out the names of the headlining bands for the 2010 edition, Backstreet Boys and Richard Marx. As described in Metal Hammer UK, it was a "national WTF moment". Why would anyone do this to my country? What did we do to deserve this? Is this a punishment for turning up in numbers close to 40,000, packing open-air venues amongst sweltering heat and dust, with no food and water, for three years in a row to support our Gods Iron Maiden and Megadeth? Does anyone have a f***ing answer?

Talking of answers, this is what the organizers have to say, 'The term rock doesn't mean rock genre. We support all bands, big and small'. Can you believe that? They used metal bands to achieve the status that they have as organizers and now have decided to turn into commercial hypocrits by booking these school girl pop acts. They have insulted the use of the word 'rock' and the only rock I would associate with Backstreet Boys is the rock that a person like me would throw on stage if he or she ever decided to go to this show. Announcing these bands for a metal-hungry public who has been waiting since February 15th of 2009 for a major show, is like going to see the movie District 9 and ending up in the wrong theatre showing Twilight New Moon Saga, or buying a ticket to a boxing match and finding out that its been replaced by a live drama based on Romeo and Juliet.

While all the fans are obviously pissed and enraged, the rest of the world is laughing at us. I just saw a tweet from whoever runs the Sonisphere Festival twitter page, saying 'headliner epic fail' with a link about RII 2010. Some of these people think that its the organizers' fault while others are just assuming that Backstreet Boys is considered a 'rock band' in India. Well, please let me clarify. We do NOT support that band and this is not our definition of rock. So if you find this funny, please don't laugh at our people, laugh at the organizers. It stopped being funny for me when I realized that the guy who gave me this news first wasn't joking.

So well, I needed to get this off my chest and defend the integrity of our Indian rock/metal community. I wish for the epic failure of Rock In India 2010 and I hope the organizers go bankrupt and never show their faces ever again. I second the demand to remove all pictures of Iron Maiden and Megadeth from this website, www.rockinindia.com so that these bands would never be associated with that name ever again.

It looks like the people have to still wait longer to finally see a major rock act. On my side I am trying my best to get at least some rock bands to play in India and doing everything in my capacity. I am in talks with two great tribute bands from LA, Led Zepagain (Led Zeppelin tribute) and Wild Child (The Doors tribute) about doing a show there. I will definitely use my ever-growing contacts in the rock music business to help organize something bigger in the near future.

    Cheers and thanks for reading.
