HOLDUP! HOLDUP!
I've got some new tracks for your listening pleasure. Ronnie Kline (he and I played the same joints and sometimes on the same bills...not too long ago) and I are working on some new material. FIRST UP "Pretty Unpretty" Ronnie supplied drums, bass and r. guitar and I added vocals and lead guitar. It's also my kids debut as you can hear them scream during the first few bars...it's all about Godzillia verses King Kong in NYC. SECOND UP "She Threw Me Under the Bus", Ronnie did the drums and I did the rest. These are both in works in progress...so far so good. We are also working with my old friend and producer of the first bottle record Jeff Chance. Stay tuned, more to come...and thanks for your continued support HURAWK!
NEW/OLD Tracks now up from Bottle's (my old band) 1995 Release "WHATEVER"
The lineup was Doug Seligson/Drums, Paul Blair/Bass/Vocals and Bruce Barton, Guitar/Vocals. Disappear was our single that was pushed (to the best of our under the underground ability) and God? was the standout/heavy track from our CD. Bottle was agressive and heavy and we typically were considered metal or alternative depending on what camp you were from...the metal fans thought we were alternative and the alternative fans thought we were metal. WHATEVER was produced by our good friend Jeff Chance of ZVZ (second on my top friends list). Hope you dig the tracks!
OFFKILTER...THE NEW ACOUSTIC RAWK! DISC FROM BRUCE BARTON. Bruce is known primarily as an electric lead player/vocalist and was looking for a change of pace/break after "Bottle" finished promoting its last disc "Scare Factor." He decided it was time to record a solo acoustic disc. The idea came about for an acoustic disc because most everything Bruce writes starts on the acoustic guitar and only about 25% of what he writes ever ends up on a band record. Bruce has been recognized by the press and radio in the US and Europe as an excellent writer/musician/performer. OFFKILTER the new 20 song disc, features acoustic/electric guitars, bass, percussion and vocals by Bruce Barton of "Bottle" infamy
IT'S ALL GOOD MAN (aka instant pussy) MP3 is here! IT'S ALL GOOD MAN is very funny and a true story with kind of a HILLBILLY MOTORHEAD thing going on!
PIZZA, STRIP JOINT, COMBINATION LAUNDROMAT and another tune from the Fabulous Floyd Bauers Band. Got the idea from Clarence Clemmons. The big man came up with the pizza and laundromat (so said Bruce S. at a shoe in the early 80s), I added the strip joint.
NASCAR Player, with sort of a hip-hop/rock feel. It the story of the first cool/street smart NASCAR driver.
MUSICALLY "offkilter" and "the upside of down" incorporate a timeless song writing approach concentrating on multiple textured straightforward melodies (inspired by combinations of classic rock, Latin, funk, hip-hop, blues and hard rock/metal).
LYRICALLY the disk offers up an optimistic (for the most part, with a little humor thrown in) point of view in an otherwise world gone bad. Bruce has a longer list of things he won't write about than what he will and it's this type scrutiny that produces thought-provoking lyrics, intentionally off the beaten path.
ON THE AIR & ON THE NET Local radio to picked up on "offkilter" and the first solo acoustic disc "the upside of down" WRNR, DC101 and 98Rock have all played selections from the releases. Bruce's site at MP3.COM/BruceBarton has had songs reach as high as number 2 (out of 1,000 songs)in all of the Washington area and had a top 10 single for the acoustic format (out of 4,000 songs worldwide...and over 5,000 downloads prior to MP3.com shutting down).
BACKGROUND Bruce's band "Bottle" has released two critically acclaimed CD's (RMI/KEPT IN THE DARK RECORDS, NYC...1995's Whatever and 1996's Scare Factor) with a sound that offers up a dynamic blend of heavy groove, hard edge, funk and alternative styles with influences ranging from "Metallica," to "The Red Hot Chilli Peppers," to "Neil Young," to "Hendrix." Bruce has recorded and performed for over 14 years.

Bottle evolved as a power trio from the mid to late 90s. Here is the lineup for our second release 'Scare Factor" As pictured above was Doug Seligson, drums, Spike Stevenson, bass, and Bruce Barton on guitar/vocals.
Scare Factor was and was recorded in late 96. Scare Factor was the one of the band's favorite tracks. The idea came from traveling to different towns and rating the scare level we would provoke as we performed. We fairly well mannered and respectful during load in and sound check...but when we took the stage, we hit it hard! Blaaadooow! This track was first played on the radio in Richmond, VA, explative and all (the FCC wasn't too concerned with RVA...the PMRC...well maybe a different story there).
We had a lot of different influences and tried not to take ourselves too seriously. Bottle was kind of like a faster Melvins approach with more beer. I'm going to feature some more Bottle here and there as the band is big part of how I've got to where I am today. The Bottle material was pretty much metal meets alternative. Thanks for your continued support!
