Bruce Lucy is a Philly-based trio of keys, guitar, and drums that believes in the power of a pop chorus, stickers, the magic of back-up vocals, dancing, and fun. They’ve crafted a sound rooted in 50s and 60s doo-wop and pop stylings that is filtered through a trio instrumentation with heavy tones reminiscent of punk and 90s rock. Foster’s keys are distorted and create a unique instrument somewhere between guitar and piano. While laying down the groundwork, his range of tones shapes each song’s character. With an equal breadth of tones, Gina adds a top layer of PUNCH. During a set, her work extends beyond one instrument, as she switches off between guitar and bass. Josh is the solid rock and mustache of the band. His explosive-attack style brings on the fierce beats that hold Bruce Lucy together.
Bruce Lucy was formed in September of 2007 by founding member Foster Longo. The keyboardist and lead singer of the band, Foster Longo began his classical piano training at age seven. At 16, he became a student at the Philly School of Rock, where he met future band-mate Gina Gleason, with whom he shared an overwhelming passion for glam rock. While on a tour with his first band, Foster met Josh Phillips, with whom he shared an interest in mustaches. Foster now teaches keyboards at the School of Rock and is a composition student at Temple University.
Gina Gleason found British Steel by Judas Priest in 7th grade and soon after discovered David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust – two works that have come to define her life. Gina is the dark and mysterious guitar player with two hearts - one forged of hard metal stolen from Satan's furnace, the other made of pure gold and glitter. Her guitar has been broken, beaten, vomited on, and covered in blood. It's ready to punch you in the face.
Josh Phillips started playing percussion when he was 10, performing in the school marching band. His transition into rock music began with his first band in eighth grade – a guitar/drums duo that only played “Satisfaction” (resulting in a life-long oath to never perform covers). When not percussionizing, Josh is busy watching and making movies.
Each Bruce Lucy song contains facets of each individual and their influences, and is melded together with sweet harmonies and love.
