Magnetic Audiovisal Installation

Created for Modern Art Museum of Bologna (MAMbo)

The theremin is one of the oldest electronic musical instruments, and the first musical instrument played without being touched.
The idea behind the Prepared Theremin is to use a theremin as a controller to manipulate sounds recorded in real-time or from a library.

The Prepared Theremin is using Spawc, a software developed by Bruno Zamborlin.
A scientific article about Spawc is published at the CCNC 2009

The interspeciescommunication

EOD 04 is an interactive installation by Frederik De Wilde (BE) created in collaboration with the University Hasselt in Belgium and Bruno Zamborlin (IT).

The project is a interactive installation founded on special species of living fish that perceive, electro-sense, their environment and communicate with each other by emitting electric signals, either in pulses or waves.

I'm a Computer Music researcher.
My work is focusing on gesture recognition and modeling non-standard instrumental playing modes, increasingly used in contemporary music.

I'm in the Real-Time Musical Interactions team of Ircam - Centre Pompidou, in Paris. I'm currently working on the Gesture Follower project.
Furthermore, I'm developing a MaxMSP sequencer at Centro Tempo Reale in Florence.

I collaborated with Massimo Simonini, the director of Angelica, for a prepared-theremin project.
I play with To The Ansaphone and with the italian drummer Andrea Belfi.

"4 SONATAS FOR ELECTROACOUSTIC THOUGHTS" Music by Francesco Giannico and Stefano Spataro '4 Sonatas for electroacoustic thoughts' is a microcosmos of modified sounds, folk-derived loops, noise nebulas in which it is not easy to see the light. The soundscapes are rough and elusive, but well-balanced, and never excessive. The work (4 tunes for a total length of about 20 minutes) comes from a collaboration between Francesco Giannico and Stefano Spataro. In a pragmatic sense, the album is a mix of field recordings of an audio/video installation about Taranto's Ilva (made by Francesco Giannico) and electronic oscillations/acoustic hints (by Stefano Spataro). Nonmaterial sounds, layered over and over, folk memories and Interstellar Space strikes clash with discordant string lines and melodic scraps of an unspecified nature...
