and general banter.
It would be easy for us to say something like, “We started the band because we were fed up with the scene, man!” or some kind of similar self-righteous tosh.
The truth is we wanted to enjoy ourselves, to do some things we hadn’t tried before and see what happened.
We all came from punk bands playing gigs together here in Manchester, and it was a shared love of punk and hardcore that made us friends in the first place. As much as many people seem to get to a point where they cast off earlier influences as if they were shackles, they continue to have a big affect on our sound.
Alongside this, we’ve tried to involve other inspirations, from progressive indie acts such as Foals and Bloc Party to envelope-pushers such as At The Drive-In and Minus The Bear; basically anything that makes us feel great.
Brutus has been together for well over a year now and we’ve been taking our time. Finding a sound that felt right didn’t come straight away, and we’re always trying to improve, learn and push ourselves forwards.
But after re-writing our entire set and suffering the setback of losing guitarist Finn to his personal educational fulfilment, we are going into the studio to record our debut EP, Dear Brutus.
We’ve also started playing live after being cooped up in our practise room for so long, ironing out every crease we could find. We are so, so hungry to get on stages, make noise and hopefully make people excited as well.
After all, it’s easy to let it all get you down isn’t it? But doing this keeps us feeling alive. And if we can make other people feel the same, then we would feel like we’d done a right good job.
Thanks,
Dear Brutus x

Boys! Don't know if you heard the news but The Honeymoon Suite split up a few weeks ago.
But allow us to re-introduce ourselves... we are now The Cape Race, we have a whole new set and a slightly different lineup.
Don't know if you boys are currently Manchester or Sheffield, but fortunately we have both bases covered. Got a show in Sheffield next Friday and Manchester next Saturday, would be amazing to see you there!
Hello gents! Hope you are all feeling fresh and suitably rocking? We're planning on hitting one of your gigs in the near future because quite frankly, your music is splendid! We're also planning on attending our own gig a week tomorrow. Hopefully you can pop in and see the show. And if you struggle reading things that are not in the form of a poster, read this:
Boltons a deffo for me, as is the Scotland weekender if you still want me that is! This t-shirt is starting to stink, but fuck it, women are subconciously attracted to a mans natural musk, even if they deny it. Look out for my new acoustic band coming up guys! =D
We are very much looking forward to see you "rock out" on the 28th of this month and have every faith that the evening will prove to be splendid. Not but three days before you attack Cafe Saki with your brutish rock, we are aggressing The Roadhouse with our bullish sound. Cast your eyes on this picture for more information...
Hey, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the kind words, It's always nice to get complements from other bands. I'm gonna have to catch you guys live at some point.
