Bruver (slang for brother) is a brand new three man - one woman formation. Their different musical backgrounds provide a rich basis on wich they build their unique sound. It’s what would hapen if Audioslave met Aretha Franklin, The Meters met Muse and Stevie Ray Vaughn met the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Probably best described as a headnoddin’ funk-rock band with a slight melancholic touch, Bruver brings that fresh new flavour you’ve subconsciously been looking for ever since the reintoduction of the mullet as a fashion statement.
The four members of Bruver come from very different musical backgrounds.
The Milo brothers (Chris on guitar and Eelco on drums) grew up with classic rock, jazz and fusion. Born as twins, they’ve been writing music together ever since they were able to hold an instrument. They were the driving force behind the successfull rockgroup Deshur, in which Bruver member Erjee Vroling also played an important part. At the start of the new band Erjee swapped his guitar for a bass, which in retrospect made much more sense because of his fascination for rhythm. His musical baggage consists of oldskool funk, hiphop and electronic brokenbeat; styles in which he is also active as a dj and a producer.
The leadsinger Annabelle van de Laar provides the boys with a completely different package. She enrolled in musicalcollege, played in dinnershows as a singer/dancer and brings a big bag of soul to the stage. Besides having a killer voice, this femme fatale has more balls than your average leadguitarist and is guarantied to get the crowd pumpin’.
The thing that makes Bruver unique is the way all these styles and influences are combined. Each song is the product of a colaboration in which every member deliveres the same amount of creative input for each part. It’s not uncommon to see the singer writing drumlines or the drummer composing guitar-riffs. The music is, therefor, not just a funky basline with a rocky drum pattern, a fusion guitar and soulfull vocals. It’s an original and complete blend of different styles working together and intermixing to create a brand new sound. Bruver; phat ‘n fresh funkrock.
Jaja alles gaat goed. Eindelijk weer aan de slag. Met jullie ook alles ok? Waren zeker mooie tijden. Praten we alweer over vier jaar geleden. Wie weet tot snel...
