About me:
Bruz Wear® is a line of childrens pants with knee pads that encourages kids everywhere to be active and stay active. The line is inspired by our son Nicholas. The day after he was born, he was diagnosed with severe Hemophilia A after bleeding for 18 hours from a routine circumcision. To say the least, our lives changed from that day forward and in ways we could have never predicted. We had no family history with hemophilia and had limited knowledge of what life would be like for our little baby boy. After months of being bombarded with information and support, we realized we were among heroes. We discovered an amazing community that has been through so much but has seen so little attention from the public.
In the 1980s, about half of all people with hemophilia were infected with HIV due to tainted blood products used during treatment. Now, after many died from AIDS, about 10 to 15% of hemophiliacs are living today with HIV. In addition, until 1997 the Hepatitis C virus was commonly contracted by people receiving treatments for hemophilia.
As a result of these tragic losses, treatment improved dramatically which we are so very grateful for. We have befriended many community members who live with HIV and/or Hep C, and who have suffered the loss of family members and friends from this tragedy. We felt, and still do feel, an overwhelming debt to them for all they've been through. Their suffering has put our son in a position to receive better treatment for his bleeding episodes today. Of course there are still many issues to tackle but we are grateful and feel it is our calling to do more!
After many months of asking "why", we finally came to the point of asking "now what"? We started our business in hopes of making a product for all children that would be fun, cool, and with purpose. We also decided that we would donate a percentage of Bruz Wear profits to hemophilia research and support programs. Even though profits are a long way off, we donate every chance we get for events in our community and for other events helping children. Right now our short term goal is to find a way to have every newly diagnosed baby receive a FREE pair of Bruz Wear pants. With only 500 babies born a year in the USA that is not an unattainable task. We will most likely start one region at a time which will make the cost even less.
We, being a middle-class family from Colorado and a local grass roots company, cannot afford to fund this venture right now ourselves. We are looking for leads to someone who has the ability to underwrite this project and help make this dream happen. As parents if we received a gift like this it would be so special because it's purposeful and comes from people who share similar experiences. Please help us if you or someone you know has an interest in philanthropy and helping a community that still faces many struggles.

Johnny Depp - back in the 80s there was a 21 Jump Street episode where he went undercover to (if I remember correctly) protect a Hemophiliac who contracted HIV. That episode stuck came back to my husband when the doctors told us that our son had hemophilia. If anyone has that episode, I'd love a copy.
Anyone celebrity baby who can sport our cool pants to help us get recognition and bring attention to our cause.
