Bryan Ferry emerged as if from nowhere in 1972 when he launched Roxy Music on an unsuspecting but highly receptive world. The band was the ideal vehicle for his multifarious talents as composer, singer and visual artist - the wildly innovative music was presented via equally original artwork, costumes and stage shows. Roxy Music crystallised the hippest style of the 70s, sophistication crossed with street-credibility. A series of groundbreaking albums such as For Your Pleasure and Siren and hit singles like Love Is The Drug and Jealous Guy brought the group worldwide success, culminating in the album Avalon in 1981.
Ferry, starting with These Foolish Things in 1973, has meanwhile proved himself a masterful interpreter of other composers songs with a series of solo albums. Since Roxy Music broke up in 1982 he has blended the two strands of his career into one, variously recording pop classics and his own material on the albums Boys and Girls , Bete Noire, Taxi and Mamouna .
His album of songs from the 1930s, entitled As Time Goes By, was released to commercial and critical success in 1999 and was nominated for a Grammy award. Since his solo release Frantic in 2002 Bryan has toured with a reformed Roxy Music and has continued with his own successful UK and International appearances. Bryans latest release The Platinum Collection Album is in stores now.
Hey Bryan.... It would be cool if you could put a music player of your work here so we could add your songs to our profile. Sunny greetings from Mexico and if you have the time, please check out this video. I wrote the lyrics and guitar virtuoso Sebastien Gabriel composed this great song called Dark Halo. Thanks.
Now that we here at Burning Sky Records have two well-received albums under our belts – one revisiting the songs of Jellyfish (“Sensory Lullabies: The Ultimate Tribute to Jellyfish”) and one revisiting the songs of The Posies (“Beautiful Escape: The Songs of The Posies Revisited”) – it is time for us to start thinking about our next project. We would like to see how many people out there would be interested in participating in an album celebrating the songs of one of our all-time favorite bands – the highly influential and brilliant band Roxy Music. Roxy Music has always been a favorite band of ours, and so creating a “Songs of Roxy Music Revisited” album would truly be a labor of love for us. We are also considering including some reinterpretations of songs of Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera, and Andy Mackay. At this point, we’re not planning on including any of Bryan Ferry’s solo work, but that could change depending on how things go.
As those of you familiar with Burning Sky Records know, we do not undertake these efforts in a small way. Our project celebrating the songs of Jellyfish resulted in 3 separate releases on 4-CDs covering EVERY song ever released by Jellyfish on CD, and our just-released Posies project resulted in 2 releases on 4-CDs with 50 different Posies covers, including reinterpretations of classic Posies songs by Posies members Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow, Joe Skyward, and Brian Young.
If you think that you might be interested in participating in this project, please contact me at burningskyrecords@gmail.com. Also, if you know somebody who you think might be interested, please let them know.
Cheers, Alan Heaton and Steve Turnidge Burning Sky Records, LLC
