Influences
Jeff Buckley, Marty Sexton, Tom Waits, Robert Johnson, Clapton (who still may be God), Traffic, dem,'der Allman Bros, Ben Harper, G Love, Beck, Mr. Robert Zimmerman, Elvis (Costello more than Presley), George Harrison, John Lennon, Mississippi John Hurt, Albert King, BB King, shit....old blues musicians in general that I probably will never relate to other than i dig how much emotion and soul is expressed....but i will still try. Ryan Adams with or without Whiskeytown, Van Morrisson, the Stones, Kiss, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, James Marshall Hendrix, Blind Melon, Bradley Nowell, Morrissey (only while drinking gin), Bill Withers, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, and David Gray and that Connor Oberst fella.....there are so many more....I must admit that I like some of those hipster garage bands but will agree that most need a shower and they probably own too many skinny ties.....including, the strokes, kings of leons, and razorlight's of the world...., etc...I like good songwriting, the usage of good melody, and people that can play their instruments well.....like jazz musicians. But when you listen to jazz, you either are waiting for someone to sing, or just listening in awe....
I like hearing music that makes me want to break my own instruments and burn my songbooks.....which is why the radio is dead to me....but music like that always gives you something to strive for.

Blues stomping on pop melodies, gritty vocals with a touch of soul, and lyrics that bite.
Bryan Russo is an acclaimed songwriter and performer who has written literally hundreds of songs and, over the course of the past six years, has made a name for himself as one of the top original voices and songwriters in Ocean City, MD and the Mid-Atlantic region.
After penning his first songs in Scotland while living in the UK in 1999, Russo, a classically trained violinist and self-taught guitar and pianist, came back to the states and moved to the rich Philadelphia music scene and started to turn a few heads musically speaking as a writer and a performer at “songster” mainstays like the Grape Street Pub, Dawson Street Pub, and later, World Café Live.
One local music reviewer called Russo’s songs “a breath of fresh air in today's generally dull world of music writing. His innate depth of thought is apparent in all his songs and sparks an appreciation for its originality among listeners. People need to hear these songs loud and clear, as Russo is a rare talent.”
Songs like “Lord, Lord, Lord” have been receiving extensive local radio play for several years and has been featured in the 2007 surf movie “Due East: Volume 1.”
“Smokey Café”, another crowd and radio favorite has been featured in the web based television show “Deleted: The Game”
A recent review from Las Vegas freelance rock writer Slade Vegas on his recent “Next Big Thing EP” release described Russo’s brand of songwriting.
“Soulful, Powerful, Heart felt and satirical are the constant thought running through a listeners mind when dealing such a talent. The tracks of his latest EP are like driving on an old abandoned high way on route to greater things; a sound track of hurt, anger, smiles and memories. Russo’s talent is undeniable.”
Always tuned in and drawn more to the often cast aside lyrics of popular music, Russo tries to bring all the elements in Indie music that allow for a message to be stated, but incorporate them into a catchy and perhaps albeit pop formula.
With an arsenal of songs that stretch across a number of genres and styles, his distinct lyrics and exceptional musicianship is available for artists to use and will work with artists to establish their voice in their songs.
If you need help tweaking a song, or need the song that has been eluding you to complete your record or shape your sound, Russo is a songwriter that can help accomplish that.
Some Press Clips:
“Russo is a versatile and engaging songwriter who knows how to write catchy lyrics that are also intelligent and carry emotional truth.”
-Cara Dahl (Maryland Coast Dispatch)
“Russo is a refreshing voice in an industry which is overrun with self-consciously clever wordsters and songwriters who mistake bombast for profundity. Most important of all, he has something to say, and people will listen.”—Cara Dahl (Maryland Coast Dispatch)
“The call to action for a response to such an artist is now. Bryan Russo has been able to produce such a reaction by his countless hours of dedication to his own and many others art form of communication in his scene and city that to ignore it would be blasphemy. Through written word and song he conveys a message of hope and a driving force of dedication and love into making everything worth singing about”. Slade Vegas—Las Vegas freelance rock writer
“Singer-songwriters are a rare breed when it comes to the Ocean City, Md. music scene, but Bryan Russo is hoping to change that”.—Roger Hillis Ocean City Beachcomber
