Bryce Panic is a groove machine.
Whether it's creating a sexy backbeat for The Blow, multitracking a murga rhythm or choir with Mirah, whipping an audience of revelers into a feverish bliss at the first Old Time Relijun shows, constructing math pop with Matt Steinke (of Mocket & Octant), providing intuitive rhythmic and vocal support for Rebecca Pearcy's tender guitar and voice, improvising head to head with Arrington de Dionyso or jumping onstage at a Sandman show to beatbox on the fly, he is the go-to collaborator for live sets and recording for many musicians in Olympia, WA and beyond. You may have seen him during the past year in your town singing and playing drums, glockenspiel (!) and kalimba (!!) with Mirah, or opening up for Old Time Relijun.
In his current project he produces and raps with the multicoastal hip hop crew Better Bizness Bureau. Panic lives in Portland, Oregon, while fellow rappers B-Wanna and Jam Master B live in Chicago and Buenos Aires, respectively. Their debut album, "Bryce Panic Presenta--Better Bizness Bureau", was recorded almost entirely in Argentina and combines complex lyrics and a wide array of unconventional backing tracks. It will be released in December, and Panic will be touring solo to support it, performing all the parts. This project has been incubating since the days of Doug E. Fresh and Run D.M.C., where a young Bryce Panic and B-Wanna (nee Bert Stabler) could be found breakdancing in the cafeteria and waging rap battles in the middle school bathroom.
Panic brings to his live show a couple lifetimes' worth of performance cred, having played every type of music venue from intimate basement shows to massive festivals. He believes in the power of the dance party.
One more thing... We went to Manhattan. Dylan scootered at the Banks under the Brooklyn bridge. Colleen and I went strolling around. Took a train and subway. Not as intimidating as expected, but still a big city. J
B: enjoyed your recent video on YouTube! Nice change to your layout on MySpace. Dylan got 3rd place in the scooter comp in Buffalo! The Razor team is staying with us for a week in August along with about 15 other guys.... and one bathroom. I'm still planning for the UniSkate2008 across Ohio. It is kind of falling apart, but you know how maniacally dedicated I can get. I hope to at least skate it. Hope all is well and good to see you happy and singing and dancing.
Two fellow musicians and myspace community members were senselessly shot last Saturday morning in Savannah, Georgia. While they are people you most likely have not met, I am sending this out because ANY contribution towards their recovery would be greatly appreciated. They had just finished playing a show downtown and were attacked after two thugs approached them first trying to sell them drugs, then asking for money. These friends of mine gave the thugs some beers as that was all they had to offer. In return, one was shot point blank in the neck, and the same bullet lodged in my other friends spine.
B - It would be so great if you had nice quality videos made at your performances. I'd love to be able to send a link to people of your performances. Another idea is get as many clips as you can by borrowing someone's digital video camera, and pull them into IMovie to make them what you want. It is a snap in IMovie. And by the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! You should look through the old pics I sent to you and Cutie to remind you of the good 'ol days on Sassafras. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CUTIE!! If people could see your stage presence and control, they would hunger for more....
Hey Bryce - long time no hear. Wally Inouye came out from Hood River to skate. The guy is a legend. He has a skate shop in the Hood - IPS. He had more skateboarder mag covers than anyone - seven. I hit the soap box derby hill for the first time this year. Lots of fun. Do you have an tour plans? Are you recording any new material?
