Freelance Drummer / Programmer
Not too many successful drummers get a violin for their 4th their birthday, but that is exactly how drummer / percussionist Bryon Larrance started playing. “My parents got me an eighth scale violin and lessons with a local fiddler. I began the drums six years later and the rest is history!” He fell in love with playing drum set immediately and it quickly became Bryon’s passion. At the age of 10, Bryon began playing percussion in the middle school band program. Throughout high school Bryon continued to pursue his musical interests playing in various jazz and rock groups, learning every Led Zeppelin song he could. Growing up in East Tennessee, Bryon didn’t begin drum lessons until he was out of high school. He then began at a local music store and ended up with a Bachelors and Masters in Music. His pursuit of studying led him to New England Conservatory’s professor of percussion, Bob Moses and Manhattan School of Music’s John Riley. In 1997, Bryon moved to Nashville, TN to study with world-renowned drummer Chester Thompson at Belmont University. “Belmont was an amazing and studious experience where I learned about the discipline that it takes to seriously pursue music, but what I really discovered at school was how to practice.” “I had 24 hour access to a couple practice rooms, which enabled me to completely immerse myself in study and honing my playing”. Bryon would continue his private studies at the University of Tennessee gaining a M. M. While in Knoxville, he was fortunate gain playing experience with a local guitarist John “J.D.” Brown, which ultimately led to touring and recording with Rock n Roll hall of famer Percy Sledge. Since moving back to Nashville in 2006, Bryon has established himself as one of the most sought out drummers in Music City playing everything from jazz and funk to rock, country, and bluegrass. He keeps a busy touring schedule as a member of the John Cowan band. Bryon also tours regularly with Allman Brother alumni, Jack Pearson. Other artist Bryon has worked with in Nashville are: Chris Rice, Rachel Kice, Marty Magehee, Roy Vogt, Shane Roberts, Wes Willett, Ericka Dunlap, and Joe Beck Bryon is a four time recipient of the Tennessee Arts Commission Professional Artist grant. He continues to develop his reputation as a top call session / live drummer, producer, and clinician. “Each day I strive to improve and am searching for new musical journeys.” says Bryon.
