■ Standing on the Shoulders of Giants - METAFORM
【HipHop/Electronic】
----- REVIEW -----
From melancholy to boisterous, Meta-form’s wayward-drifting instrumentals easily call for shelf space next to DJ Shadow or Amon Tobin. Standing on the Shoulders of Giants is a tidy balancing act; Metaform is generous with sullen melodies, bits of live instrumentation and quick-sliced cuts over looped breaks, but he doesn’t linger for long. Look no further than to the erratic, digger-framed freak-outs in “As if in a Dream” or to the pastiche of choral samples and splintering psyche of “Barbie Doll” for this guy’s own stamp on a genre with which he is quite familiar.

Monotony is not something instrumentalist Metaform ever falls into on his latest LP. Sure Standing on the Shoulders of Giants isn’t flawless (see the messy “The Secret”), But with the way that Metaform blends live instrumentation with samples and captures so many moods with his music, each track here provides a new experience. Sometimes he even switches up his style within individual selections, like on the transforming “PCH,” in which he begins with a dusty downtempo groove and then kick up the speed from some lively D&B output. On the less complex end, Metaform performs just as well when using nothing but strong drum programming and sample-chopping (“Urban Velvet”), All in all, this guy’s got promise.
- XLR8R
Metaform, a producer based somewhere in between Tokyo, San Francisco and Los Angeles who keeps his appearance and personal info shrouded in mystery but harnesses a proclivity for bringing just about any of the Another Late Night DJ mix series to life. OK, so maybe his tunes contain a sordid strand of cinematic breeziness, but as a total klepto freak when it comes to vinyl and odd trinkets, he vividly illustrates Giants as a colorful hodge of samples and live instrumentation all of which is then smelted into trip-hop beats and hissing strings - all tempos and riddims that are downright cool struttin’.
- URB
The beauty and brilliance of this album is evident in its title. Standing on the Shoulders of Giants is Metaform acknowledging the incredible source material he has gathered to create an album that embraces drum n bass (Sunday), down-tempo escapades (Love and Loss), classic breaks (Heaven Can Wait) and soulful melodies (Bubblegum) while maintaining an elastic energy throughout. This project has a unique personality. It is inviting but that invitation will be met with extreme excitement for music savants as they hear and marvel at the ways Metaform has integrated classic material in a whole new way. Layering his compositions with samples from multiple genres, Metaform takes the listener on audible journey that few other producers are capable. What distinguishes him and his project from so many others that are similar is that Metaform maintains the soul of all samples in his incorporation of them, so he isn’t just using a loop for nostalgia or create an effect a familiarity but is building upon the groundwork of these giants to create something new and exciting that will be remembered on its own merit.

Kvůli těmto praktickým zkušenostem s válkou i jejich teoretickým zdůvodněním přirozeného stavu Hobbes vytváří teorii společenské smlouvy pod vládou absolutního suveréna.
Proto vytváří pokojnou společnost vstupem do společenské smlouvy. Všichni jedinci ve společnosti předávají právě akorát svých přirozených práv, aby autorita mohla zajistit vnitřní mír a společnou obranu. Hobbesův stát je silně autoritativní a zároveň minimalistický. Kromě míru, obrany a vynucování smluv by stát neměl do ničeho zasahovat. Jelikož však suverén není nijak omezen, neexistuje ani způsob, jak zaručit, že se suverén skutečně takto sebeomezí a pravidla neporuší.
